Track season's done here. If it were a bad bearing, it would have failed badly already, and I'd be giving my wheel a point-by. I'm definitely going to replace it/them before track season starts up again; 7k miles with this noise, and no real signs of significant damage, didn't feel a need to earlier. It has no play in it, and makes minimal noise under a stethoscope, starting to think it might be something else, again.

Hmm if there's no play then it's probably not the wheel bearing...good luck, and let us know when you figure it out!

Trust me, I will. I'll be so happy to be rid of this noise!

Mine never pulled to the side or had any discernable wobble. Just a roar. A horrible, horrible roar.....

Bumping this thread. My 128 has 43,000 miles and both rear wheel bearings are groaning. I got the car in the air and spun both rear wheels and sure enough they’re shot.

This is definitely premature. The car is on BMW Performance suspension with 17” BMW wheels, no track days. The car did spend one or two winters in Wisconsin (previous owner) but now lives in Arizona. The car is still under CPO until December so they better cover this.
I’ll get the airbag done, too

Anyone else go through bad rear wheel bearings with low miles?

Had my first bad bearing about 2k after buying the car (had 159k), dealt with it for another 6k . Replaced it and all was better, but found that the axle hadn't seated entirely, so there was about an inch of play back and forth at the top of the wheel, fixed that and the car handled much nicer
