New tires = Better times
Swapped tires from Michelin PSS to the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's and took 1.5 seconds off my best lap times at this track. Even though by the seat of my pants the laps felt good they didn't seem 1.5 seconds good so I am really happy with the performance. They do rub though at full lock though and it appears as if they are a bit wider than the PSS and thus rub on the strut on the inside. No issues on the track, but I'm sure it's not an ideal fitment.

I used Yoko AD08s on track this year and PSS last year. AD08 is comparable to RE-11, 180 wear rating. My impression is that PSS feel stickier than AD08s at street temperatures, but they get greasy when they heat up, whereas AD08s get stickier and stickier as they heat up.
PSS fit on my wheels with -2.0 camber, but the same size AD08s rubbed on the fenders in front until I increased the camber to -3.2. Fortunately they don't rub on the inside. edit: I see from your other post that we both have ARC-8s with 235/265. Last edited by GaryS; 11-12-2012 at 06:31 AM.. |

Yeah with the PSS I had no fitment issues even running no negative camber. Loved the tires, but I think the RE-11's are just a slight cut above them. They perform just as well on the street and a bit better on the track. Although they seem to be pressure sensitive like the PSS. Anything over 40 psi and you can feel both of them get greasy, although the RE-11's seem slightly better even at higher temps.
I'm eventually gonna get the vorshlag kit, but I have to get my brakes fixed first. Destroyed them the last session of the day and that's gonna be a pricey fix. |

nice going there! you picked up some speed from your last video! you're were zipping through those high speed corners track seems like a lot of fun with nice run-offs. RE11 are great tires! I am not surprised you picked up a 1-2 sec from pss. what's your brake setup?

BMW performance brakes w/Ferodo 2500 pads and Motul fluid. At the last session I was trying to hold off a race prepped e30 for like five laps and finally locked my brakes up under threshold braking and something broke. Pulled off the track and heard severe grinding noise from both front and right rear wheels. I had to have the car towed back home, but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet today so who knows what I messed up.
Maybe it's just the push I need to get the BBK, but that's like 4k. Ouch! |

I've heard good things about the Stoptech BBK, although I'm not sure there is that big a difference between that and the Brembo. I'm still hopeful it's nothing big I'd hate to have to spend 5k for all new brakes.
