Not quite sure what the process is, but they may very well end up in an auction (e.g. Manheim), so they will be up for grabs by anyone with a dealer's license. If so and not picked up by a BMW dealership, they will likely be offered without CPO, which may not be a good thing for a prospective buyer, especially if they are unaware of these cars' history.

Ugh. That's terrible. Time to start being even more careful when buying a pre-owned 1M.

Now I'm super paranoid and weary. For example, this just popped up: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...ngId=107332706

Markup + mileage makes it smell like one of those 1M's. :\

Green Lantern, that's exactly what I was going to say next, but I can't type worth a flip. In my opinion these cars are "rode hard and put up wet"
The one you mention just above is also on the BMWUSA website

That's why I really believe we have to look out for one another, so no-one gets burned, otherwise it hurts us all and doesn't do the brand/marque any favors

I too want a reasonably priced one and I'm willing to wait

Well if the looking takes more than a year or two, wouldn't it be worth it to switch up to the M2?

I'm not interested in the M2 as it's so far down the line and who knows how much that will cost when it arrives. Let's see how much it weighs as well. The 1M reminds me of my E30 M3's. I'm just waiting for the price to become a little more reasonable and realistic. I would have snatched up Dan Parkers without the engine and found myself a project over the winter, but I didn't find out till it was too late.
Actually there seem to be more for sale in Australia than over here, I saw 10 of them advertised at an average price of $110k

I'll keep everyone posted if and when I hear of the other cars sell from the PDC

True. Reflects very high allocation we got: 302 cars for country of only 22 million people.

I read somewhere that Australia has highest M car sales per capita of any country in the world. Given incredible price gouge we experience (typically double US prices) guess BMW is only too thrilled to make cars available to Australians!!

I guess if I am BMW I would take advantage of the recent hike to the Aussies. That's what happen when you have a free global currency market, and not free global car market.

That's why there was a shortage of X5's initially. They could fetch more

They could fetch more overseas than they could in the local US market. I believe the numbers were 6:1 and Europe gobbled up the most

Sometimes size just doesn't matter

Turkey has 75 million people, only 3 1Ms, Brazil was originally granted 25 examples, maybe still at that point, it is 210 million strong population. Both quite strong emerging economic powers as well. 16.5 million Chile has around 15 1Ms. Peru seems to have more than all these so does Colombia. Depends on a lot of things these allocations and sometimes numbers just doesn't make any sense anyway, I believe there are still some unsold 1Ms in some Latin American countries due to (my humble guess) simply wrong allocation strategies of Munich. It seems like they really tried to take the marginal profits from additional 1M productions (originally planned 2700 something ended up with more than 6300 examples) in 2012 and in mostly certain Asian markets plus Australia.

You won't hear me complain, the extra Oz cars meant I could get two cars, 14 months apart. It did/does no doubt hurt our resale, given the numbers tripled from what was originally 'planned' for Oz.

Interesting stuff.
At one point last year my (not so big) dealership in our small town had FIVE 1Ms...all sold atm

They still have M3 GTS # 43 @ € 144k ....(they started the thing up when I wanted to testdrive my 1M and get that one out of the showroom I thought the whole building could collapse anytime LOL. Imported 458 idem dito)
They sold 2 of them as I recall.

Cheers

Looks like they've already hit some dealers. I know Perillo's car is definitely from the Performance Center. It's fully loaded and reconditioned by BMW. Contact Alan if interested in the car. I'm sure he'll work out a good deal for you.

So for those looking, stay on high alert (not sure how they will be placed, my guess it would be through Manheim or similar, which is not open to public)

I was waiting for those puppies to go on sale....based on my source info inside BMW NA those cars have been "well used" haha but still cool that there selling them to the market....wonder if they're the pre-pro cars or full production they had a few EURO cars with halogens and stripped features.

Indeed.

Also came across this one: http://www.alexanderbmw.com/used/BMW...3b87b06cec.htm

That matches the 6,238 mile one below:

Are these the prices they were sold for at auction? And does anyone have pricing on any 1M's from Mannheim?
