I want one of these

Anyone go through those phases where they look at cars for no reason?? My lastest fascination below. Once I get the rear end squared away on the 1 series I want to purchase a more dedicated car and trying to think of something I can afford. any other ideas?

If you can find one, they're amazing cars. One of my dad's friends has one, and its insane how light they are for the power - the sheet metal is so thin that you can feel it indent some when you lean on it.

Hey Andy,
Since you are talking about tracking... I've actually thought about making my 1er my track car and getting a differrent car for the autox, like a miata or s2000. But, some of the guys i've talked to love:
1) Lotus Elise/Exige for tracking, because they are so light. The parts are toyota parts and apparently very reasonably priced, lots of aftermarket tuning.

if you do go e36 M3, i don't know whether it's possible, but i prefer the e46 CSL wheels to the ones in your pic of the e36 m3:

bman6074 (from CT), He had an E36 M3 sold it after getting his 135i, and now currently has a 135 and an exige. So if you want to see how he thinks they compare?

Usually if you can afford a 1 serie, you should be able to have a nice E36 too . They are different beast, while they share a lot in common, one is much more modern than the other. Both are fun to drive.

Business is good, but not that good . I understand you, I got the 325is a year before the 128i. Also have a 318is that I still keep as a part car for the 325. I love cars, but I needed something reliable 24/7. I just can't separate from my E36. I'd like an E36 M3 instead of the 325, maybe one day. I plan to use the 325 as a track car, I've always said to myself that I'd only bring something to the track that I could afford to crash, I ain't doing that with the 128i.

Andy, I have a co-worker with an E36 M3 and it totally baffles me. I don't know her very well, but she doesn't strike me as an enthusiast. No dis-respect intended, but you know what I mean? Like those "owners who look like their dogs" pictures? This is the opposite.

Have you guys seen the seats in these cars? They are like race seats!!

I bet it does when you are building a rally car. How is it coming along anyway?

ECU tuning on the Lotuses isnt so easy... there is a member on yr who has one that is in the middle of modding it... he has a white exige S. He says there is only 1 person in the US who has cracked the tuning on the ECU. Apparently every year and model they made some tweaks to the ECU so it takes a lot of work to crack the code on em...

as far as pricing for mods goes... they seem on par for BMW mods, maybe a little more as most are done with exotic materials to save weight over OEM pieces...

Just go ride along with Kessel at the auto-x's. I have always kind of desired an M-coupe from the z3 era, just for their uniqueness. But now I would certainly prefer the last gen z4 coupe or z4m coupe... very nice looking. I could go on an on about what I would like... but that doesn't often get you very far.

Z3 w/ZSP came with an LSD from the factory.. That was the last non-M car that BMW produced to get a factory LSD.

If I were to be building a semi-cheap AX car... that's a great base to start from. Low weight, low center of gravity, balanced, and LSD.. The only detractor is that they come equipped with the e30 rear trailing arm setup, which isn't that great. Also, certain colors make it look very much like a girl's car... (IMO)

I've driven Kessel's car, and was like .5 sec from my AS prepped 135i times, on my first attempt.

If you could verify the 3.0 M54 Z3 had a LSD.. that would be the car to get.
