Glad you're okay. One of those big front calipers would be badass to have on your desk.

I suggest you take public transport or something else!

I tried to go to school when it only snowed like 1 inch in seattle. Drove around a few corners, even on shoveled streets I was sliding around downtown. Needless to say I instantly turned around and went to take the bus.

Not worth it!! Keep you and your 1er safe!

Good choice. On my wishlist as well for sometime during this lifetime, God willing. Best of luck with the house, and getting the 997.

I really wish I could. But I live in a suburb, and there is no public transportation to my university, at least where I live. I have driven my 1 in the ice/snow before, except those were the RFT. Idk how the RFT and my hankooks compare. I would think the hankooks would be better. I was going only like 20 in my RFT and drifting as well.

Good thing I commute mostly highway, which is straight ^_^.

Yikes glad you are okay.

Lesson learned... Summer tires should never be driven in these temps. Even if the roads are dry/ clear, traction is a function of the tackiness of the rubber compound. Summer tires become harder like a hockey puck, whereas all season/ winters have a softer compound that allows them to be tacky.

Summer tires should never be driven in temps below 40 F. Also note that if the air temperature is above 40, the road surface might be still colder.

Damn Ray... I'm sorry to see this. Are you going to be parting out any of the mods that are on the car, or any that are intact?

Sorry for your loss, but glad you okay which is all that matters. Snow tires go a long way. Example, my winter car is my CTSV with blizzacks. Hasn't failed me for 2 winters so far!

Given the apparent force involved, I doubt having winter tires on would have made a huge difference. If you were on ice the only thing that would have really helped are chains or studs and not many people in the US have those on a DD. The main thing is to keep the speep down whenever road conditions are questionable and avoid ice. Even so, sometimes you're just unlucky.

Holy shit.

As mentioned before Im glad you are OK but given the damage you must have been driving miles too quick for the conditions/tyres etc. A fooked up bumper can be explained away easily enough but damage like that means you got it very very wrong!
