1er Loyalty
So how many of you out there still are in love with your 1?
8 years, 91K miles and I still love mine. But I'm starting to get an itch. The M2 sure looks like a great car. And I have to admit, my 135 is starting to show it's age a bit. Front end is pockmarked with road nicks, rubber is failing on the back window, and rather annoyingly, because I do keep a coat of good wax on it and it's garaged, I'm starting to get paint oxidation on the roof. And unfortunately, seem to be having a rather bad run of luck on the mechanical side, spent quite a lot of money lately to keep it in top shape (only way I will have it) and found out this week the front suspension bushings are failing (another $500). But despite that. I still love driving her. And I still turn, look at her and smile as I'm walking away in the parking lot. Like I said, thinking about the M2 a lot. But probably will be 2-3 years before I pull the trigger (just the way I buy a car). And even then, I think about how I could work out keeping the 1er. So, any other love stories out there? |

Considering the age and mileage I would keep her as it will be a fun classic to have one day. I would hold out for the rumored M2 GC so you can have a fun two door and a nice four door.
I plan to keep mine for as long as possible. It's should be a great classic to go along with the 1M down the road in 5-10 years.

I still love mine but I get that itch too. My car that I've had since new only has 48k miles so I cannot justify a new car anytime soon.

Yup. Still look back at it after getting out. That's my gauge. The day I realize I haven't done that in a while, will be the day I know it's over.

I'll keep my 1er as long as I can. Powerful engine, great size, handles good enough for me. As far as looks go, like an E46, I think it just gets better with age. Love the steering feel as well. I definitely see other cars I like and may add another car one day.

just don't confuse future classic with future collectible or future value.

The 2002 has long been a classic, however finding an example in acceptable condition is hard to impossible. I see them listed for sale all the time, and 99% of them I would not accept for free. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to view and drive a 1980 model 320i, being sold by its one and only owner who had bought it new, driven it 107,000 miles, and kept it well maintained and garaged, all the time, in a dry, salt-free, environment. Other than for a lot of small rock chips on the front, it was in near perfect condition. It was priced at $6 or $7 thousand dollars, and I thought it was clearly worth it. But I didn't buy it. No room for it, and just way too dated once I got behind the wheel, not to mention about as gutless as a Prius |

27k on my MY2012 and I love many other cars but I can't see myself getting rid of it for another since I won't be driving it in the salty winters.
I keep the paint in 90% swirl/scratch free condition with a nice ceramic coating and garaged. I don't see my car showing its age on the outside for many years and the design is aging very well. The 1 is the one for me!

Our daughter's Mazda was bought used and it is a dark color. We're in Phoenix and I can see the paint start to fade on the roof and I attribute that to how the first owners must have cared for the car. It gets waxed these days but the evidence is there. My 2004 325i has the original paint and it is still very shiny. I'm the original owner and have kept it waxed with the occasional polish. But - it is also a silver car. The reason I ask about your paint is that my 128i is deep sea blue. Dark colors just aren't as durable as lighter colors but I want this paint to last. |

Love mine... well i bought a second low mile because I like the 1 so much... opted for the n54 because of my mod itch that hits often and hard... both my 2009's have under 35k miles... one will be the DD and one the mod machine... still not sure which

Is that really a reality anymore? Should be totally feasible to drive it into the ground, then rebuild it and do it again.

I fell in love instantly with this car when it debuted back '08. Swore it would be my next car. Then I completely forgot about it for 6 years. Then I bought one and didn't remember that love story from 6 years previous until 6 mos. (could've been more than that, I can't remember) after owning it. I think that's how this is gonna go. I really enjoy this car, but I am still always looking elsewhere. That's my car ownership story so far, and the 1er hasn't be the one (pun not intended, but funny anyway) to change that thus far. I really only own cars for 4 years, so I think I will enjoy this for another two years and move on knowing that I owned one of the last "real" BMW's and enjoyed it. It also helped me, basically, achieve my goal of one day owning a 3 series sedan\coupe. I figure this got me close enough to that considering the ones I grew up worshiping were of the e36 and e46 variety.

Driving new cars every day, and I can't stand all the collision avoidance beeping, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, this warning, that warning and on and on and on. And these systems are never reliable, and interfere all the time. No thanks. |

From the very first day of ownership, I have planned to keep my 135i for the rest of my life. It has been a true joy to own and drive. To date, I have managed to avoid all mechanical issues, although I did have to replace the windshield this week due to a rock strike at speed. Can't really blame the car, the dealer or BMW for that!
If I get an itch to buy anything, it will be a small used pickup truck to haul auction purchases home.
