I haven't de-badged my 135, but I did remove the large 'Subaru' letters off my WRX. I guess that makes me a wanna-be because no one can tell what kind of car it is now.
AS I SAID:

MOST people who debadge do so because they like the clean look - whether they get it done as a dealer option (also available here in Australia) or do it themselves.

SOME of them do it to hide what the car actually is.

SOME of them get a little thrill when asked if their car is an M3 - I've seen that sentiment expressed here on this forum more than once.

SOME - NOT ALL.

My point was that not everyone who debadges is doing so for the right reasons - and conversely - not everyone who adds an ///M is doing so for the wrong reasons.

Either way - its your car - you're the only one who has to like how it looks.

(PS: I didn't call anyone a wannabe)

I LOVE the look of the subtle "M" on the back of a car, but in my opinion you're a dbag if you didn't pay for it. Same story as Mercedes and AMG. This guy that I parked next to once had an "S500 AMG". Thought that was pretty hilarious...he is just proving he is a wannabe that doesn't know jack about his car, or brand.

I'm sure most are aware...but an AMG Mercedes only has a two digit designation, 43, 55, 63, 65, etc...

I happen to agree but only under certain circumstances. I think SOME guys debadge with the intent of keeping from you what is really under the hood. Case in point, seen a lot of 328's get modded up, body kits, dual/quad exhaust conversions, all the works but then debadge because they feel and inadequacy in owning the lowest trim level because it means they didn't spend as much $ on the car as others or its not as fast or whatever. Sure, WE know the difference but 90% of the people on the street dont. I didn't debadge my 328, but i did do shadow emblems though, which i also did on my 135 and would do on an M3 or M5 if I got one, I just like the way it looks. Nothing wrong with taking them off altogether if its because you don't like how it looks but its another thing if you're the kind of person whos doing because you're insecure of what you're driving compared to others.
See, now I can accept that. I just don't like being lumped in with all of those people that you speak of cause I do it to make the car look cleaner as opposed to hiding the fact that I bought a base model when I wanted the top of the line. Not saying you said it, cause I know you didn't.

The kind of guys that add an M are the kind that wear a fake Rolex. The same, somewhat holds true for those to debadge. The major motive is to decieve. IMO.

No. Not always. I just HATE badges. I am not trying to decieve anyone. I just don't want excesses crap on my car, it looks tacky TO ME. And most people wouldn't know a 135i from a Mini Cooper.

exactly. nothing wrong with debadging IMO. However its not a 2 way street, rebadging is ALWAYS going to be putting something on your car that indicates something its not (unless you're rebadging Dinan or something). If it was, it would have come that way. My car is not an M but has M accessories - still not an M though. Hell to be honest I don't even see the 1M being worthy of the badge/name but thats a different thread.

The price tag on that car would beg to differ. Haha! I would NEVER drop $45,000 on 1-series. My next car will be a CPO E92 M3.

well mine was like $44 new but the 1M is so similar to a 135i the only REAL difference is a badge, a few small suspension trinkets and an LSD. Fully loaded $55k? No thanks - I'll take a 135 for $12k less and put all of that into the car.

"I put an M badge on my BMW that I park next to my Integra that I put a type-R badge on that I walk out to in my Nikes that I sewed a Jumpman symbol onto after I sharpied in the word AIR on the tongue. I also sew tigers and aligators onto my shirts like the Notorious BIG did. Please don't be offended that I've assumed that you're dumb enough to fall for my weak, pathetic, ploys."

I de-badged my 135 not because I was trying to fool anyone, but because I like the way it looks! In Europe a lot of cars are that way and most of the drivers I talked to where not trying to fake anything. It was an option when I ordered. This was my third BMW that I did that to. What kills me is when people comment on what others do to cars they are not paying for. If you want to put M stickers/badges all over your car good for you ( (I wouldn't) if not don't! Now those here who believe de-badging/re-badging makes those drivers posers or fakes lets make a deal. Start making their/mine car payments and I will get my 135 badge reattached so I can conform to BMW owners rules!

HELL NO! Two reasons. 1) the roundel is sharp and is a staple of all BMW cars and 2) they leaves holes exposed on the body. I did replace them with cf ones.

Heres something kind of funny, I surfed around M3,M5,M6 sections and other 'high performance' car forums. You very seldom see debadging done on these cars. Interesting that the ratio of "debadgers" are much higher here in the 1 Series Section. Coincidence? I dont think so.

cuz you're paying $20k for that fucking badge. most of them WANT you to know what they are driving... (and I say that knowing several good close friends who own those cars).

I did NOT debadge my M3. The badge is sharp. The 135i plastic chrome crap is hideous.

He is the same guy that buys a fake Rolex. He has a comb over. Brags about how much he makes. (overstates it too) Wears fake jewelry. Its just weak...
