ROAD HAZZARD PLAN , FEEDBACK NEEDED.

I got a quote for a road hazzard plan from my Firestone Tire Dealer (RFT dealer). The plan is:

$100 for a hazzard protection plan.
100% paid for repair or replacement of tire for 3 years or 2/3 tread.

$63 for Limetime rotation (every 5000 miles) and balance. I told them BMW is not into rotation, they disagree of course. I agree, I have the 205/55 16 all around and I will get more life out of my tires with the proper roatation plan.

So... for $163 is it worth it?

No it's not.

Don't rotate. Even using Lime.

Re repair or replacement fee of $100, sounds good. But this doesn't include your wheel and there's an equal if not greater likelihood that you'll damage wheel. So you might want wheel and tire ins. instead.

If you PM me, I can send you to the place where I got wheel and tire ins. for 3 years for about $350. That's less than one tire and one wheel.

I've always been curious:

Why should one rotate?

And why shouldn't one rotate?

I never understood the purpose, and I also never understood why BMW advises you not to.

I was always told that rotating tires can transfer a problem. For example, a tire may be perfectly happy in the back but when it moves up from, it causes a vibration. Why? For one reason, it developed a different pattern in the back than the front tires did.

I realize this is an incomplete answer but hopefully it sheds a little light.

why rotate?

In the past I have roated tires on all of my cars. They all had the same size tires as does my new e90. 205/55 16. I know for a fact if you rotate this type of set-up (all the same size tires) you can extend the life of the tire.
