Anyone want my chrome grille *surround* for your black *surround*?
I'm looking to do a black surround with the chrome bars I have now. Just wondering if anyone has a black surround and wants the chrome one. |

after struggling to find any "right-angle tools", i resorted to pulling them out.
i dont think i could have broken them by pulling them out even if i tried. the tabs holding them in are small and angled enough to just fall out with a little encouragement. if anybody is curious, i pulled out from the top, side and bottom tabs in that order. |

Just to add to this DIY with what I did
(Sorry if someone's already posted the same method) I unscrewed the four torx screws, but left the insulation strip on I pushed down on the top of the kidney grill, on the areas where the clips are, one at a time, while pulling the grill outwards, and that popped out the top clips. then the side clips I got released by shimmying the grill outwards. the bottom ones come out immediately after doing that! The new grills just pop in super super easy. |

Thanks so much for this DIY. Worked flawlessly in less than 30 mins with hook and pick tools.

I used a small allen wrench as my right angle tool for this and it worked great. Used some vise grips to hold it by.

They're so easy to pop out, why look for the tools or improvise? Just grab them with both hands and push against the bumper with your thumbs, they'll be out before you know it. Even just a quick tug gets it done as well...

I just got done installing mine and used only a flat head screwdriver and my fingers for the bottom tabs since I could reach with the screwdriver. I ended up doing the gloss black surrounding with the stock chrome bars and snapped the chrome surrounding with the black bars and will probably switch between the two once it's winter.

Just did this as well. Thanks for the DIY. Didn't have the right hand tool so I straightened a metal coat hanger out and just bent the last 1/4 inch to 90 degrees and used that to pop the clips. Went nice and easy, took about ten mins.

Granted, I am not near my car in order to assess the ease of doing this mod, but I am encouraged by everyone's posts. I figure I could try either method, but has anyone heard of someone actually breaking the grills (or anything else for that matter) by using the grip and pull method ?

One question tho, I see the bonnet safety catch shows through the grilles on my car and on yours. I want to color mine GT3 RS red (like my new wheels are going to be) Any DIY's to remove the catch so I can paint, powdercoat it? |

11 pages, and hundreds of posts in this thread? Folks, your pointy tools are a waste of time and money. Just installed black grills on my black car today in less than a minute. Grab the stock grills on the inside and pull, they pop right out. Pop new ones in, jeeze. There's nothing that can break.
LOL @ the BMW tech who couldn't figure out how to remove them. |

Installed my BMW Performance gloss black grilles at lunch. They look great! And they match the rest of the trim on my M Sport car. Thanks for the DIY.
