E90 small in back seat: MY ARSE! E90 about same as E60
I have read through as many posts as possible on this forum and others regarding everything detail possible about the E90. I wanted to learn as much as possible. My only concern with the E90 was the back seat room for two adults for the times I might have people in the back.
I have read the post and most people feel the back seat is not as bad as some make it out. But, I have read so many reviews, I can't keep them straight. And, some of the reviewers said the back seat was cramped, while others said it fits two adults comfortably. So, what to do! Well, how about just going and sitting in the darn car. What a novel idea! Well, I took my brother with me one day, a friend the next day, and the next day. I had them all sit in the back seat, while I test drove the car, I am 6'2. Everyone said they felt fine in the back seat. Then, I had two sit in the back seat, and they said the room was fine for two adults. Then, I sat in the backseat on a drive, heck, they were right. :rocks: The back seat of the E90 is definitely bigger than the E46, and is sure not smaller than the E39. So, then I went and test drove the 525i, and we all did the same thing again, sitting in the back seat. Well, in all honesty, there is not that big of a difference in terms of leg room. Everyone felt the E90 330i was not that different. It was nothing drastic, which made say, "WOW, this is very tight, or this is very roomy." The only difference was the E60 felt a bit wider, but no big deal, since I would never, and most people would not have more than two adults in the back seat of any car. So, I say to all the reviewers who said the back seat was too small. MY ARSE! The E90 is very well designed and will fit four adults comfortably. |

You know... I never really thought about it till now, but I have NEVER sat in the back seat of my car... I'm going to have to do that.
BTW I LOOKS larger than my old E46, but I don't remember ever sitting in that backseat either (and I had the car for 3 years)...

I guess it depends on how you like to drive, but I didn't buy it for the back seat.

If only Lexus would have been smart and increased the back seat on their new IS 350. It's a joke. I would have seriously considered the new IS if the back seat was as big as the E90.

I tried sitting in the back seat of my 325xi, not changing the position of the driver's seat, and it was a bit tight, but there was enough space to get by.
For those of you who opted for the ZSP, are the bucket seats really that much more comfortable? I'm planning on picking up a 330xi, and the only upgrades are the seat, steering wheel design and wheels, of which the seats I'm really interested in... |

After test driving a 330xi I felt it was stiff enough so I wasn't really interested in the sport suspension. The xi sport package is perfect for me. Thicker sport LEATHER steering wheel, #158 sport wheels (which I really like) and 12 way adjustible seats (get the leather). The sport seats will hold you better in spirited driving. Add steptronic, heated seats and comfort access and I think you have the perfect car.

I too feel the back seat has more room than one would think. I was pleasantly surprised by the room in the back. I am 6'2, my brother who is 5'10 sat in the back seat while I drove on a test drive, and he said he was fine with the room. Now, it was a short trip, but my brother is very picky! Yep, he is great to have along for a test drive. If there is something wrong with the car, he will find it.

Back seat blues
If you are concerned about rear seat room, I don't think the E90 is the car to buy. I have been debating this as well and have come to the conclusion that the backseat is unuseable by adult passengers other than for short trips. Its difficult to get in and out of the back seat because the rear doors are short and the front seats extend well into the rear.
If you only need rear seating in a rare occasion I think the rear seats are adequate, but I don't understand how anyone could call it comfortable. Last edited by needashower; 02-19-2006 at 05:15 PM.. |

just realised that i made a mistake, yes the e90 can seat 2 adults comfotably in the rear seat ( i mistook the thread as 4 adults in the rear seat), rear leg room tight if you have two front seat passengers.

For trips under an hour or so, I don't see how any adult shorter than 6' could complain about the back seats being cramped-they really aren't that bad.

E90 is workable for 4 adults ride, but it is far from being confortable if driver is tall.

Some great responses to the thread. I sat in the back of an Acura TL for about a three hour road trip. I was very comfortable in back, and I am 6'2. The TL is slightly bigger than the 330i, but when I sat in the back of a 330i, during a test drive, I felt comfortable, my knees were not against the front driver's seat, and the driver was also 6'2. But , again it was just a test drive. I have been cross shopping the two cars as they fit my budget the best.
I love the 330i, so maybe I am trying to talk myself in to room in the back seat. I will go try a test drive again from the back seat. |

Its not that the E90 doesnt have alot of leg room, its more the way the seats are positioned. U sit higher than the driver a little and the back isnt that wide, so you seem closed in. Not as much room as a TL, but who minds.

the ladies usually sit in the back...and majority of them are tiny, so back seats are perfect
