Does 1 series have the lights in the door handles?
I am not sure what they exactly are called but i know the new 3 series has them and i've also seemed them on the 7. They are those little white lights that shine when you unlock the doors with keyless entry. They lights are supposed to light up the ground beneath the door. I know this is a minute detail but i think thats just about all thats left at this stage. Those lights actually do a really good job of lighting up the ground area around the car, and they look cool. Will the 1 series have this? maybee our european friends can answer this? Thanks

Not looking good for that one.
On bmwusa.com's 3 Series Features & Specs page, this feature is listed under "Comfort and Convenience" as Ground-illuminating lights in door handles. There is no mention of it at all on the 1 Series Features & Specs page or Packages and Options page. |

I dont think it has it either. If you want all these toys just buy a 3. I've never seen the point of ticking off every option on the 1. Your making the car heavier. But I guess the itty bitty size is what is most sought after.

If you want toys and gizmos, buy a new Infiniti. Those wacky Japanese!

I would buy a new infiniti, i like the current one i have, but the BMW is faster, handles better, brakes better, drives better, built better, etc etc etc. The toys are nice and cool but i would never buy a car for these toys. the drive is far more important; however i do think that a cool feature and was just curious. i also don't think adding 2 bulbs the size of a key hole is going to add much weight so i'm not so sure about that argument. I agree the car is already fat. |

People go way overboard with weight on this forum I will have more crap in my trunk and fat on body (6ft 200lbs), then what my options will add. You can completely spec out a 1, and still keep it light.

I remember reading somewhere that the puddle lights (aka light package) are part of the Premium Pkg. :iono:

Chris, puddle lights are different. Those are mounted under the door, on the surface that mates with the door sills (when the door is closed), and illuminate when you open the door at night. We'll get those as part of the ZPP, I'm pretty positive...
The others are xenon colored accent lights embedded into the underside of the door handles, which are cool -and I like them on my e90-, but I can find my door handles pretty well at night on my own (I'm pretty sure). |

Correct, the lights package is standard on the 135i in South Africa FWIW.

Don't forget how much inaccurate info has made it's way into my eyeballs. Unfortunately, this is another topic that will only be settled once we have a US spec car.

i agree, they look pretty cool and are functional (at night) but it's not like i won't be happy if it doesn't have them. I can't wait to see a us spec to answer these kinda questions. But as is i said earlier, the little stuff is all thats left to talk about. |

In the Canadian order guide it says that the Lights Package is standard on the 135i. From the Canadian order guide...
135i Coupé • Engine: Twin Turbo 3.0L in-line six-cylinder engine with High Precision Injection • Transmission: 6-speed Manual Gearbox • Wheels: 18” Star Spoke – Style 264, with mixed width performance run-flat tires • Select Features, in addition to those indicated for the 128i Coupé: o Sport suspension o M aerodynamic kit o High performance brake system, with front 6-piston fixed calipers and rear 2-piston fixed calipers o Xenon headlights o Adaptive headlights o Headlamp washers o Lights package So I guess thats the answer, at least here in Canada anyways.

I have the 'Puddle lights' on the tow vehicle and really appreciate them. When you press the door lock in the key the lights come on. In the case of the Avalanche they are in the bottom of the mirrors.

They do actually make a 1 with the lights, I can't believe they would remove them for north america. Well I can believe it but it would be dumb.

FYI, atr_hugo, our roving reporter at the Chicago show, noticed that the 135i there, with ZPP, did not have those lights on it.
