Implications of Getting Black in Canada
Guys,
we all know it, the winter here is LONG, cold, and snowy. Black BMWs kick ass. IS it worth the hassle? Please do comment. I am very much torn on what colour to pick for my car (ordering this week no matter what). |

JMO... but if you have to ask, then black probably isn't for you.

I would rather get the color I really want then settle for something just because it might look cleaner longer(same dirt just hides it better). I am an obsessive compulsive car detailer so the choice is easy for me. It might be more frustrating though in your climate to find a non frozen water source to keep up with washing.
I am the one outside the neighbors mock while snow is falling during the weekly wash. I keep the hose indoors right before I begin the wash and if you work diligently I am able to finish before the hose freezes. Problem is that you can create an ice slick on the driveway so I drop some salt as I work. Also helps if you prepare the wash bucket in doors with warm water to keep your hands warm. If you use a high quality wax-sealant(zaino) in the late summer you should be able to get through the winter on weekly(approximately) washes. Final Word: To me nothing is more satisfying than black glass.(Well almost...) Edit: Sorry I am not in your region so take my opinions with a grain of salt but I couldn't resist a detailing/color thread.

^^^ I agree, the streets are a mess here for several months of the year between the snowing/melting over and over again. Regardless, I'm notorious in my neighborhood for washing my car every couple days. You've got to go with the color you *want*, and yes its worth the hassle.

Once you go black...You will regret it 90% of the time. I have a black Audi now and it is a gigantic pain in the a$$. The only time it looks good is after hours of detailing. You see every little scratch, speck of dirt, pollen, etc. Unless you plan on parking it in the garage under a cover, I would avoit it at all costs.
I cant wat to get a different color. |

I had my first black car... I will never do it again, its just too hard to keep clean... It looks great when clean but you must be ready for a near constant battle to keep it clean,

im going for alpine white, mine wont see any winter, but imo i dont think you should care what its going to look like dirty or in the winter, chances are you are going to wash it more or whatever, but in the summer it shouldnt be too too dirty.. whatever colour you like is what you should get. cause thats when you'll see it, if its dirty wash it. lol i dunno i've never made a colour choice base on how it looks dirty or maintenance

Once you get your first black car, you never get one again. At least I won't. Looks great until about 10 minutes after you've washed it.

I had a modified black IROC Camaro that would just rip up the road.
Unfortunately, when you rip up the road, you have to wash it off....

My black 325:
Mediocre 95% of the time But when it's clean it looks absolutely mint. Black.. is a chore. If you enjoy car washes, I guess you can pull it off. I've owned 3 black cars.. and I have to say it's my favourite colour.. BUT.. I'm throwing in the towel. The next car I get (please let it work out and be the 135i) will be dark gray (or SGM in this case).

interesting statistic tho for all you black haters out there. even tho it may show the most and it may look the worst dirty. black is the number 1 in resale as a used car (meaning apparently most ppl looking for a used car prefer....you guessed it....black). Or one could argue due to the fact that the car is black ppl expect to pay a lower price for it due to the extra care in making it look good. EITHER WAY the sucker will sell.

that's the color combination I wanted but my buddy talked to a couple of people and they said they love the interior for a while then really start to hate it. I think it looks badass. |

I "would" get it, and that's how I voted. It won't ultimately be my pick, but I wouldn't let the practicalities get in the way of getting a color you're passionate about. If you really, really like it... better than anything else, you won't regret you choice whether it's clean or dirty.
But if you're on the fence between BSM and a more practical color, like silver or SGM, I'd go with one of those. BTW, SGM with coral rocks...
