Don't forget that if too much changes between the current 135i and rumored 135is/tii that the car would have to be recertified for use in the US. This can be very expensive - would BMW be willing to spend 7 figures for that?

When does a car need recertification?
320hp engine is already certified in 335is. Other bits and pieces are from BMW parts bin.

I may be incorrect, but certification is based on chassis. You can't just swap out parts between different chassis and not have to get recertified. The engine would still be an N55, but a simple change like changing the quality of the leather from boston to dakota or nappa would require recertification.

You may know more than I do on the process, but I believe it's rather stringent.

2014 or 2015? Since the current coupe went LCI in 2011 that should give us a current coupe run until MY2014?

This is all very confusing.

I have to agree with those who believe the 135is (if there is one) will in substance be a 135i with a factory installed PPK. It will probably come with a higher level of standard equipment than the 135i. M Sport would likely be included and probably there will be some cosmetic additions that have already shown up outside of North America.

Just look at the 335is coupe to get an idea and that should tell you something.

Due to the increasingly oppressive US fuel economy rules small cars with big motors will see large price increases as a means of rationing them. Manufacturers will aim to sell fewer units at higher margins to avoid lowering their average fuel economy for the smaller vehicle class.

The E82 135is will release as 2013 model to replace our existing E82 135i.

So 2012 is the last year production of 135i for E82. 135is will not quite be the same as 1M in performance but will be an upgrade from 135i.

F20 is released. However it's only a hatch for now. The coupe is on a different cycle and all the signs are that it has another year to go. Question is what goodies will MY13 bring?

Yeah. The current 1 Series will be reincarnated as the 2 Series.

Thought the 2 series would be a new design. The E82 won't be badged as a 2 series if that's what you are suggesting.

Isn't that what we are awaiting? No one has seen a test mule or anything from BMW, just artist renderings?

Eventually a 2 series F20 based coupe will appear. But it won't be anytime soon. Question is then, will the E82 coupe roll over into MY13 and what goodies will it get? Previous predictions said that production would have ceased by now and there would be no MY13. But it seems that dealers are talking about taking orders for MY13 so that puts the 'what goodies' question front and centre.

Has been suggested that the NA I6 in the 128 / 125 (depending on what country you are in) might get dropped and replaced with the new turbo 4 cylinder from the F20. So tying all this together, perhaps the N55 turbo I6 will get a power boost, hence 135is.

Hi Guys
Is there any news on a updated 135 ?
I'm in the UK and about to order a Sport Plus model but a dealer I spoke to mentioned there will be an upgraded model going into production for MY 2013.

I don't know why they need to stop the 135i at the end of the year. The car could really use some suspension tightening all-round, a more tactile steering rack from the 1M and maybe the PPK cooling setup too. IMO, there's massive potential for an improved E82 135is offering.

Splinterz - probably around august/september (after the break usually)

Would be nice if its true regarding upgraded 2013 model..
Suspense is killing me.
Wish list for 2013 model:
- no RFT
- 320+ hp and torque
- better suspension
- better brakes
-Make iphone integration free (All 15k econocars already have this feature)
- LSD (one can wish)

No way they're going to swap steering racks on this thing. If there's to be a 135is, it will very likely follow the pattern of the 335is and Z4 sDrive35is (god, I hate that name) - in other words, PPK + cosmetic bits, maybe special badging.

I agree. Sad to see the e82 coming to its production closing. There is a lot this car needs from the factory but I doubt the 135is will be a solution to all...(that already came out, it is called the 1m)

I predict this car would have a factory PPK, sport package standard, new badge and possibly subtle cosmetic differences similar to those with the 335is.
