Cylinder misfires
I have an '08 with 51k miles. Original spark plugs, fuel pump and injectors. I started having reduced power and engine would shake during acceleration sometimes.
I have the jb4 so I read the codes and it was a misfire on two cylinders. Either 6 and 7 or 7 and 8 can't remember right now. Last night it starting the extremely reduced power and shaking from idle and all the time now. Could this just be my plugs? If so, can I buy them locally or do I have to order them? Thanks in advance. |

replace your spark plugs and retest. I would only use spark plugs bought from a BMW dealer. Read the DIY...

I should go ahead and replace all 6 plugs while I'm in there right?

Replaced my plugs with the same symptoms and it seemed fix the issue right up. I ordered the plugs from BMW online. You will also have to buy or borrow a special 14mm 16 point spark plug socket. Don't worry, it is easy. I used copper anti-seize.

Yes, next is to swap the coil packs, if it doesn't follow, next is the injectors. For me...it was the injectors. However, you're gonna need to read the codes again as you obviously got the cylinders wrong.

should probably replace bank 1 injectors, injectors need to be calibrated when replaced otherwise you will have a rough running vehicle, or you can pull off your intake manifold and check your intake valves sure they got lots of carbon build up

easiest thing to do is swap the coils and see if the codes follows them. Make sure to mark the coils so you know what cyclinder they came from. I was having the exact symptoms you descibed and turned out to be 2 bad coilpacks. Cost me about $100 and an hour of time.

yup, switched plugs first to no avail. Then ordered the coils, replaced them and she started right up beautifully. I could have kissed her I was so happy.
