As I said: BMW have no scheduled PR dates far in advance - talking about BMW AG. Only time frames are set. When R&D closes the case, they pass it to marketing: then PR is released soon. E92 Euro version case was closed on Jan 17, but they are still tweaking the N54 engine to fit US eco standards & fuel.

Regarding US version: the US specific PR will be released later - when R6D closes the US version case. Now the Euro / Global relase will be released.

So, US is more of speedFreak's field, I'm more Euro guy. All I know about US is you will get N54 VTT engine as well - but with slightly different specs.

In Europe 335i will be a bridge between 330i and M3 (325i & 330i staying). Not sure about US. It looks like you are getting 328i and 335i - instead of 325i and 330i, and 328i also coming in version with 2.5L engine (N52) that meets SULEV II standards.

Regarding sources: there is no perfect source - kind a Big Brother - who knows everything. And even more important: there is no source who is willing to tell everything he knows.

Of course there is. It will be available worldwide - also in US.

The issue between Tine & Speedfreak is what engine the 335 will have. Release dates are irrelevant and unpredictable. Tine supports the 3.0 bi-turbo hypothesis; Speedfreak supports the 3.5 l non-turbo. Others have suggested the small V8 hypothesis. Let's keep the personal crap out of it, just report what you can when you can. There are many possibilities here, including a competitor misinformation scam. I have not heard a credible statement that the body will be changed in any significant way, just the engines. If you just ordered an E90, you should be happy as a clam that you are getting an incredible car. Release of a 335 or 340 or 3000 next year does not diminish the wonderfulness of your car. Unless you are the sort of person who cannot stand the idea of someone else having something that you perceive as a little better, new model changes should not be an issue.

Just wishing I could jiggle my schedule so I could be in Geneva...

Thanks for the pics Tine. Dang, that Z4 looks HOT.

Having said that, it doesn't really say a whole lot about whose 335 source is more accurate. Nobody has ever challenged any Z4 info and honestly, here on E90post.com, more people probably care about the 3 than the Z4.

I appreciate the pics of course, but we're dying for accurate 335 info.

Bottom line, we'll see who's right when the 3 is released, and then someone's gonna have to eat some serious crow.

Hmmm, a 3500 lb 6-speed Twin-Turbo Inline-6 3.0 Liter vehicle. Sounds very familiar, except the one I'm thinking of produced 320 bhp @ 5600 rpm and 315 lb-ft @4000 rpm, did 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds, and 0-100 in 11.8 seconds. It had a top speed of 155 mph, which I assume was limited. The car I'm thinking of was made about 10 years ago--the 1997 Supra Turbo.

When first info about E92 is out I'll emerge as a winner. But ...

The info will not be US specific! US engine specification will be different, yet being VTT N54 3.0L I6, not anything else. But you'll have to wait for US press release to be out to be sure. And then Ill emerge as a winner again ...

At this time it's still the situation BMW NA marketing saying they want at XYZ hp output from that engine, but R&D can't promise it - they'll work hard to tweek the engine to meet all the standards and to be as reliable as possible. They are going to play it safe this time - not wanting to release a lemon engine. That would be a disaster. And if the different / lower HP output will be a price for better reliability , BMW AG is willing to pay it.

Yes, there will be aftermarket chips to boost the engine for sure, but then warranty will not be valid anymore.

I really am leaning towards a turbo. That will be sweet. So, I hope Tine's sources is right. I have to start sweet talking my wife so I can get me that 335.

Yep, I got the same problem as you tmon25, either way (bi-turbo or not), convincing my wife that a 335 is worth an extra -- gulp, let's hope the pricing scheme here is different than RSA.

Tine, I do not see this as a fight between you and speedfreak. No one will be a winner or loser. Just one hypothesis will be supported and the others falsified. Let's just hope that we are all amped by whatever BMW brings our way!

Now, if we can just get those pics of the E92! Being a video game addict, I know release dates are about as realiable as a 1972 Germlin. So no hard feelings. I am sure we will see them soon enough, although what I really want is the E93! (I figure some creative soul will be able to doctor up a photo using the E92 press photos and E93 spy shots)

BTW, the Z coupe is hot, might have to check this out.

Anyone want to compare the Z4 M coupe with the Cayman?

And let's hope the 335 is a 3250 lb car, not a 3500 lb one, ksfrogman

True, true... even though I still think you need to get some real sources.

There hasn't been an official press release yet, but if you ask your dealer, they have been told that they can tell you if you ask them about it. I don't think they can mention it unless you mention it to them first. Even then you have ask questions, they don't just tell everything you have to fish for info. But the 335i will be here in fall. bye bye, 325i and 330i.

I've enjoyed this battle of sources, but it'll be over soon.

But hey, after everything is confirmed you guys can still have battles over the new M3 engines specs.

Just one more thing, is there anything form any of your sources that'll lead you to believe BMW will make an M3 sedan? That's what I want.

I asked my salesman about the 335 and he said he didnt hear anything. I honestly think they're trying to keep it a secret. I bought my 330 last August so there was no point in tryin to make me keep the 330.

I agree they are trying to keep it a secret. There is no reason they should try to up sell you now on a 335 that hasn’t officially been announced/released. They can always sell you later when the car comes out.

I wouldn't tell a recent 330 buyer about a 335 if I was the dealer. Why piss off a new customer for no reason. I would wait until the press release to tell anyone anything. As a dealer I can unload the 330’s and keep my customers happy until the very last minute (press release time).

The 330 owners who don’t visit these boards will be none the wiser until the 335 is released. This way they are happy with their vehicle having owned it longer and would be happy with the dealer since they think he didn’t know about the new engine when he sold them the 330.

A happy customer is a repeat customer. Sure the customer will be upset with BMW when the press release comes out but they will still like their dealer. The next time you visit the dealer after the press release he will be happy to up sell you on the 335.

I have been negotiating for the past month for a 330 euro delivery with a local dealer. I mentioned the 335 rumors and told him I wanted to wait a few more weeks before submitting my deposit. He responed by saying that production would start for the 335 in Sept, turbo, and cost approximately $7500 over the current 330 base price.

Take it for what it is worth given his motivation to either sell a car now or a more expensive one later.

I hope thats just the dealer motivation to sell a 330 talking. A $7500 jump would mean their is still room for a 330 in the lineup. You should ask the dealer if the 330 is going to be replaced by the 335 or if the 325/330 lineup will remain.

I can't foresee a $7500 bump if the 330 is being replaced. That would make the difference between a 325 (or 328) and a 335 so large it leaves major gaps in their core 3 series line.

Production starting in Sept also sounds a little strange to me. That would make the first deliveries to US dealerships in November/December or later.

Unless the dealer is only referring to the sedan being phased out a little later in the year. I couldn't imagine BMW would hold off on the coupe until after all other vehicles are released.

He stated the 335 was going to be an additional model and not replacement for the 330.
