Yup. Good weight distribution. I was worried about it after driving an X3 and Suzuki SX4, both of which had snows. Here she is, plowing through it without trouble! Those are Blizzaks on 16s.

Had my first snow experience in the new car and honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, even with the standard run flats. A little slipping, but nothing terrible. I guess compared to the old station wagon I used to drive during college back in Michigan anything would seem stable.

It doesn't snow here hardly ever so my 128i keeps it's PSS tires on year round. But I know it would be fine because I managed with my first car, a 1966 Mustang, through 6 snowy winters. It only had about 40% of the weight on the rear wheels and no stability control or ABS in those days. I also had a rear wheel drive in the snow in Pittsburgh, PA and it was fine. I liked it better than the FWD which replaced it because with FWD I would loose traction sometimes coming downhill just from engine braking and then I couldn't steer.

50/50 weight distribution and snow tires and electronic helpers means all you have to do is remember it isn't dry pavement and drive accordingly.

Had my first snow experience when I drove to Michigan over Christmas to visit family. Girlfriend had as much fun as I did with DCT off in the empty parking lots. Tried to teach her how to slalom some cones, and she actually did pretty damn well for her first time.

Unfortunately, down here in NC we don't get to have fun like that anymore.

My 128i with Michelin X-Ice winter tires goes great in the snow.
My 325iS with a LSD and Michelin Pilots was absolutely useless in the snow.

I've said it before, but the best part of this season is passing stuck Audis and SUVs who are uselessly spinning their tires in the snow as you trundle past in your small coupe.

Get some good snows like Michelin X-Ice and you won't have that noise issue.

I got some new Michelin x-ice3's on my 135i and they handle the snow great, just have to be careful to not trip the electronic nannies and it goes through it just fine.

Initially my wife was very skeptical about the value in spending the money for a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires. Winter is only 1/2 over and I've driven the 1er at least 10 days that with my G37 would have left the car at home and driven her SUV instead. The 1er is more sure-footed in the snow and ice during braking and turning maneuvers. Unless deep snow and clearance is an issue, I'm able to drive and enjoy the 1er no matter what the weather! Turns out the winter wheel/tire package was a good purchase!

I've got the Blizzaks and this Michigan winter would be a nightmare without them! I ran the stock summers a bit late into the season last year (12-13) and got stuck at one point. Bought the snowies, and she's good to go. Of course, there are days when the snow is just too deep.
