RR Midpipes and Berk Muffler Delete First Impressions

Ok so I swapped out my stock exhaust yesterday with another member of the forum from Houston for the next 1-2 weeks so he could borrow my stock mid pipes. I installed his RR mid pipe connected to a Berk muffler delete.

Install took all of 1 hour. Anyone that can turn a wrench and put a car on jack stands can change their exhaust themselves. I think installing a JB4 is harder.

There is an enormous weight difference between the two setups. I would say its about 50% lighter or possible even lighter than that.

Lets begin with the cold start this morning... It sounds like my neighbors corvette with full exhaust, squirrels fell out of the trees, the sky started falling, and thank god i did not park my car in the garage or I would have lost my hearing completely... I am going to feel bad every morning I start my car up at my apt complex.

i gave it 5 minutes to warm up and crawled out of my complex trying to keep the rpms under 1750. Between 2000 and 2500 it is very very deep and loud and resonates off of every building and parked car.

Drove to Starbucks to warm the car up and the sound tapered off quite a bit the closer it got to operating temps.

At WOT with the windows open it competes with the DCI's to make more noise but sounds incredible. You can not do WOT on the street with this setup if anyone is around though it is pretty damn loud.

The good points, it is very very throaty sounds like a v8, the sound of the turbos is even louder and sounds strikingly similar to a toyota supra with full exhaust, driving with the windows down and the sunroof open you can still hear the radio and have a conversation over bluetooth, with the windows closed its not really that loud at all considering theres no mufflers or resonators at all.

Honestly if this wasn't my daily driver I would probably keep a setup like this on the car. Im also guessing it has to be making more power even though I can't feel any power difference.

Not sure I'm going to make it 2 weeks with this setup so I should be ordering mid pipes and a rear section tonight...

Anyone know how much quieter I can expect the full berk sport setup to be?

You'll hear a considerable amount of difference between the two systems.

much quieter exhaust in that video

i just had a friend follow me to lunch to see how the straight exhaust sounded and he was actually surprised at how tame it was considering theres no muffler. it definitely sounds exotic and turns a lot of heads when you coast into a parking lot... definitely too loud for me taste though for DD.

I've got the full Berk sport setup and it's loud on a cold start, but quite nice otherwise. Not too loud, a little bit of 'drone' that has decreased with miles.

Do the RR midpipes have a resonator? The Berk does, and in combination with the muffler, it is quite civil, has a nice burble, and sounds beautiful WOT.

rr is literally a straight pipe, no resonator, and same with the berk muffler delete

it is unbelievably loud on cold startup but not bad once the cars warmed up, killer burble like a vette, sounds really good at wot but pretty loud

its weird you get used to the sounds levels after a while, it has also curbed my desire to go WOT all the time, and it made me order an exhaust. my berk street system comes in Monday!

Anytime, hope the work goes smooth at the dealer for you

Nice, did you get your warranty work taken care of then? I'm glad someone local stepped up and offered to help. 1addicts FTW!

You'll be happy with the Berk system, the longer I have it, the more I appreciate it! Now I just need to get that AR design DP in!

The "butt dyno" says there's some gain but I'd be hard pressed to put a number on it... Berk has a dyno sheet floating around and I think the gains are in the double digits... regardless, a full exhaust set up (including down pipes) will net lots of power... so for me, this was the first step in getting the power!

I have the RR exhaust and it has the 3 bolt flange like a triangle. I thought the berk muffler delete has a 2 bolt flange like the stock oval. How did you manage to hook them up without welding a new flange?

I have the CP-E axle back and know the feeling when leaving my complex. My trunk lid is about 10' from an elderly lady's window and I leave at 7am every day and when I go to the city, I have to leave at 5:45am. They must hate me...

i took a friend for a ride yesterday and he said the car sounded like a boat being started out of the water... im not sure its meaner but ill be able to compare it to the berk street system on monday night when my new exhaust comes in! i personally would only use this at the track if I was trailering my car there but to each their own

installed the berk street system today, thanks Tom@EAS! i'll have a review up tonight after i put a few miles on it. So far it has all of the good qualities of the loud exhaust and fixes all of the bad. Sounds spectacular at WOT and can still hear the DCI's...

And i can finally park in the parking garage again and my neighbors wont kill me tomorrow morning!!!

i'll try to get some clips on the iphone this weekend and post them with a longer review!

Day 2 and I can tell you this is the perfect sound for this car... I hope dp's dont change the sound too much. It is terribly addicting to go WOT between the street system and the dci's...
