We can pretty much assume that the Dinan partnership/relationship has greatly been changed.

Good find!

This may just be me, but the Performance Aero Kit makes the car look cheap. I think the stock M sport aero kit is much more BMW-ish. It seems like they just made it without actually improving the look in hopes of charging more money for something.

I wonder if the performance aero kit reduces drag coefficient

+1

I prefer the M-style stock front bumper cover over the Tii version. I find it makes it look like an aftermarket body kit for a honda or something.

Usually makes it worse, a tradeoff for reducing lift. 135i drag coefficient is .33, 128i is .31.

Good find!
You are correct. My dealer also informed me months ago it was just a matter of time, and that change will take place 100%.

I agree. It seems clear that this is the closest way that anybody will ever get to the tii concept. BMW knows exactly what they are doing.

What you may or may not realize is that BMW OE Performance is set at a standard higher price for a few reasons. First, BMW is BMW. We all know that. $250 for a Xenon bulb? C'mon. Second, BMW offers OE Performance with the same warranty as the one that comes with the car. In fact, Performance Intakes, rotors, and brakes become apart of the customer's current maintenance plan. That being said, the 135i is the perfect target for OE performance. Buy the car, spend the a few grand to upgrade, and you're set. If the part breaks or needs routine maintenance, you are covered.

BMW has cut off Dinan as a BMW represented tuner. Dealerships, especially those who are not supported with Dinan tuning, were having extremely difficult times warranting Dinan parts. Before someone goes off on me, I have Dinan parts as well However, customers were complaining of Dinan's involvement in their warranty. Plus, BMW wanted to market themselves with their own performance. If you thought Dinan prices were steep, OE Performance is higher (In most cases). However, do not forget that 4yr/50,000 warranty!

If you have questions, I'll be happy to answer them dmiles@penskeautomotive.com

I'm the Performance manager at United BMW of Gwinnett Place in Atlanta, GA.

hey daniel, i ordered my car from your sister shop over in roswell. actually built and almost here already.

anyway, any word or speculation on a bmw performance reflash since their relationship with dinan seems to be falling apart?

The impression I get from BMW NA is that BMW will never be contracted with Dinan again. That being said, BMW set a high standard for OE performance to see how the market feels about it. Obviously, it's hot and cold with the customers. Some people prefer the cheaper route, some people prefer the more expensive route. In my personal opinion, BMW is using the E46 as speculation of sales, and will drop OE Performance prices within a few years.

Off topic, I'm giving 15% off the list price on all performance / accessories if you are interested Shoot me an e-mail with any questions

Sport seats are 1550Euros each. That's $5k US, if we could even get them. I think that was most people's guess anyway.

Though it's tough to guage the parts price, seeing the car's cost differents from market to market....
