I get about 23mpg with full A/C with 40-55mph back roads and about 10 min "city" driving, without A/C I get 25-26 on the same commute. On the highway I get about 26mpg doing about 65-80mph. If I do 65 mph-70mph only, I can manage 30mpg. I have a flash tune.

When I bought the car I drove from Miami (120 miles) on a 1/3 tank of gas. I can't imagine something is wrong with the car everything has been replaced. I thing its short sprints (not wot) in between stop lights that do it.

When everyone is saying what they average is that what the on board computer says? Mine tells me I get 19 average but my gallons to miles do not match.

I have a new Avalon that I drive too, but you can't compare them. i get 30 light to light driving.
I get my exhaust installed tomorrow so I am sure my MPGs will drop down to 10.

I don't even know what could be wrong with the car. I looked around and I can't find an issue where the car burns extra fuel.

The fill up method is pretty inaccurate too btw. My 135 typically clicks off too soon. I'm thinking you may have gotten a fill that wasn't quite 100% full, then a fill that was. If your computer says 19 then I'd say you're within 1 mpg of that. When do you typically fill up? At 19mpg 170 miles would be almost 9 gallons which would be at ~1/4 tank.

It is always at 13 gallons when I fill. I pay attention to the gallons that go into the car and take the reading off the trip odo to calculate my average mpgs. I have been paying close attention to it since I am feeling butthurt at the pump. I don't listen to the on board computers that tell me 320 miles til empty... Or that during WOT you are getting 6 mpg.

I get about 23.5 MPG. N55 6MT.

Gotta admit it is not driven at full throttle most of the time, but stil I am quite satisfied with the mileage. Tank could be bigger, though.

I think it's pretty accurate. I reset it every time I fill the car. I haven't tried the "math" method vs. the DIS yet. I will do so on my next fill up and see how far apart they are.

My on board computer always matches my manual calculations. I've never seen 320 miles til empty though...

60 mile round trip each day, mostly highway, full throttle as often as possible (after oil temp warmed), with lots of 90-100+ speeds. I average right around 20 and 20.5 mpg, regardless of temperature.

The longest trip I ever took in my car was 315 miles one way, I drove late at night and tried to make it without getting gas, so I drove slow (70-75) and really slowly accelerated everywhere. I coasted into my destination with less than 10 miles remaining.

(I'm also annoyed with the small tank, but at least each fill up is relatively cheap).

Something is wrong then, you're literally driving to reserve every time you fill? You could also be filling 13 gallons every time, but how filled is your tank is each time? There's no way to know exactly. I don't doubt getting 13 mpg either if you're in a city with the need for aggressive driving, but the discrepancy between the computer and your calc seems to be too far off. I easily get close to 300 miles per tank and I usually fill before the light comes on. maybe try a highway trip and reset the computer and fill up again then calculate your highway mpg?

I get bad MPGs because I drive my cars the way theyre supposed to be drive. I understand wanting good MPGs and such but any BMW is built for a little more than MPG

IMO anyone claiming 25-26 mpg city mileage is either confusing miles with kilometers or outright lying/don't actually drive in city traffic/drives a huge amount of highway to compensate.

I get between 21 and 23 mpg at around 75% city. If I get on it it can be as low as 18 mpg. I always calculate based on my fill up total from the pump and the mileage off the odometer. I typically get around 275 miles per every 12-13 gallons or so.

The in dash FE numbers lie, badly. I've had the dash tell me that I got 25.5mpg, but when I calculated it at the pump it was actually 22.something.

For what its worth:

The 135is is at about 22mpg since new. When I was testing JB4 maps in my 335is, multiple 2/3/4 WOT runs, the worse I ever got was 16mpg. Normal spirited driving 90% city for the 335is was also low 20's.

The 435M-Sport MPPK is too new for any long term numbers but the drive home from the PCD about 200 miles was 30.8mph .

As I said above there is a problem with the car, the driver or both to be at 13.

I average about 25-26mpg with about 70% highway driving, that gets me about 300-320 miles per tank. My highest mpg has been 31.1 mpg which was with a fresh fill up on a highway with 100% highway driving and zero traffic.

09 with normal bells and whistles. I am OC to the N'th degree. I have a log book with every fill-up, price, amount, cost/gal, mpg on that tank and cumulative mpg since day one. Several long trips over the years but mostly suburban driving. 22.3 mpg since day one. I am not a hard driver but on occasion, have been known to hammer it when someone thinks they want to try me on.

This. Stop start traffic and short trips is really bad for fuel efficiency.
I either do short trips in traffic, or longer trips to go drive for fun which uses a lot of fuel

I bought my car about a week and a half ago and I'm having this exact issue - around 170 miles between fill-ups.

I've reset my filled the tank up, reset the mile counter, then drove the car really softly until the fuel tank was at E. My mile counter read 174 miles. That's about 12 MPG. I'm considering taking it into BMW to have it checked out.

Note that my car is 6spd, and that the majority of my driving is city driving.

As everyone else here has said - city driving will kill your fuel economy. I live in a small city where it's stoplights / stop signs on every block. Even though I might only drive a mile or two "around town", I'll average anywhere from 13 - 16mpg.

I've also taken my car on an extended 3 hour drive on the freeway. Filled up right before getting on the freeway, reset my usage, and ended up averaging around 29-30mpg for the trip.

Mine is a completely stock 2011 135i DCT with Michelin PSS All Season tires.

Reset your usage, then go cruise at a steady speed for an hour or so and see what you get.

I sometimes get 29 mpg on the highway going about 75 mph. The DCT is not the most efficient cruising transmission as it lacks a tall overdrive gear. 60 mph needs 2,000 rpm, and about 1,500 (or so) would be optimal. Lower revs on the highway means less engine internal friction and better mileage. As the speeds go up air resistance increases to the 4th power but engine friction increases linearly, so at higher speeds an overdrive makes less of a difference. EPA highway mileage is measured at 60 mph, so most cars are tuned for that speed.

A 135i getting 25 MPG in the city is crazy. I get 25-26 ('12 135i 6 spd, stock) with mine driving 90% on the freeway at 65-70 MPH that goes uphill and downhill. There is NO WAY.

And on another note.....anyone complaining about a sports car MPG needs to find another car to drive.

Also, EPA numbers don't mean jack. They are well below what any vehicle can really achieve.

How many miles on your car? I did the walnut shell blasting of the intake in my car earlier this year and now I'm getting between 1.5 and 2 more miles/gal. Up to 24.5 on average. My car had 57K when I had this done...
