My run flat story
I’ve just got my own experience with punched runflat.
On Wednesday last week my wife called and told what she has a big exclamation mark in triangle on the dash board display. Puzzled, I downloaded E90 manual from technical section of this website, but couldn’t find what the hell large “ ! ” in triangle means. It supposed to be small icon, but she insisted that it as large as “show flake” sign. After few phone calls back and forth, we figured out that it was a red flat tire warning. Duh! No comment. Anyway, as I’ve got home, I walked around the car and it looked that front tire on passenger side was a bit low. I checked, but pressure turned to be ok, I moved to other side, but second tire was ok too. I moved to next.. what the heck?! Only the LAST tire had zero pressure. A good chunk of glass was sticking right in the middle... So much for my visual inspection. I’ve called dealership to find out that it will take 5 days (including weekend) to get me new runflat. At least my 6 year extended warranty paid off a little as it does include tire protection. Thursday I went to work and I hadn’t felt any difference at all, except “red triangle” warning on a dashboard. I drove about 25 km. On rainy Friday morning I’ve got some ticking sound from a flat tire. The faster I drove, the faster it ticked. Not that bad, except I skidded really badly on traffic light turns, pretty much like on icy road at winter. On weekend ticking turned to continues hum, which was really annoying. I tried to pump some air to no avail. Back of the car felt was a bit wiggly. I could tell that something is wrong with car behavior. First thing on Monday after about 150 km tire has been replaced. End of story.

I don't think dealer would charge you for changing the tire it's part of the tire protection program which cover the rim as well.

I have not paid anything for tire or service to replace it. My extended warraty covered 100% of costs.
And, yes, I drove all 5 days on runflat. Not great, but it was OK for limited commute.

That was what dealership sold to me at purchase time. It is more like insurance, from third party company (EasyCare). It coveres any failure up to 120000 km or 6 years + upgrade for loaner + roadside assistance. You also required to do repair with same dealer to wave deductable.
You can buy coverage at any moment, but if car is not new they will inspect it first (for $$) and it will cost more.

Just makes me want to get rid of my runflats even more. I drive about 80 miles a day and can't last 5 days on a flat tire.

That's the warranty that came with our CPO X5. Good thing too, since the X has had a few things go wrong that would have cost a pretty penny to fix. If I decide to keep my 325 I'll get that.
