Oi this could be a solution to our brake dust problems!
Michelin apparently do this brake dust repellant that you spray onto the rim. It apparently works really well see here: http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-det...ne-w-pics.html
There are a couple of other such reviews. At the moment I am using 303 aerospace protectant I got from Autobarn (been using it for years on the interior) and it helps a little. Also waxing has been helping but not by much. I looked in Autobarn & Supercheap for this Michelin stuff and couldnt find it. Anyone know a place in Australia that has it? |

Can't help you Alext, but - this is interesting though "only other brake dust repellant that has worked for be has been rainX". Might try that, got some of that stuff.

I have used that stuff for years. It is easy to use, gives the wheels a nice shine and makes them easier to clean, but it does NOT repel dust. My wheels still start to look black after a drive.
I get it from Autobarn - about $20

Also for sale on Ebay as well. Maybe the above mentioned Autobarn was just out of stock? If you Google search it there are a couple of online suppliers selling the stuff as well. |

I gotta admit, Armor All Wheel Protectant is the duck's nuts! I last washed and treated my wheels about FOUR weeks ago and they still look good - apart from the odd patch where the AAWP has rubbed off and exposed the wheel surface.

If CeeJay is referring to Armor All Wheel Protectant product, none of those locations seem carry it. I searched Google extensively for a retailer worldwide with no luck. Not sure what gives. If anyone can provide me a valid link to a site selling this product, I would certainly appreciate it. |

I actually still have my 90% full bottle of that Michelin stuff which I bought a couple of years ago from KMart. It was hideously expensive and for me at least, did absolutely nothing. It is an impressive looking blue bottle with a yellow cap which I leave on display on my garage as it makes good conversation.
The Armorall product actually works as advertised. It's just hard to see where you've already sprayed and easy to miss areas. Perhaps they can add some colour dye? Seriously, I've seen some dyes which turn clear when dry. That'd be cool! |

I got a can of the Armorall stuff and it did work well, but then I washed the car and it came off. To all you other guys using it once you have applied it do you just not touch your wheels when you are washing them? Hose them off and leave it at that?

It's a 'per wash' treatment I'm afraid.
However, I find if it merely gets wet, it stays on pretty well. If you get any car shampoo onto it, you will have to reapply. So now I wash my car one week wheels included, one week not. More specifically, one week I shampoo the car and merely hose the wheel down (it is amazing to watch) and the next week is a full brush/chamois/fingers/skin/tongue wash with shampoo all over. |

Sprey, when you say "brush", I assume that is just on the wheels? Please don't say you wash the paintwork with a brush!!!
I've actually found the wheel protectant can last up to two blasts with soap and a high pressure washer, but it does start to loose some of its protection after the second wash. But like others have said, any physical contact with the wheel removes the protection.

Hmmm, I bought a can of this stuff on the weekend just to give it a try. But now that I hear you need to use it just about every time you wash ... the whole concept is losing it's appeal. Anyway, I'll give it a try before passing judgement.

I'm using half a can each wash and reckon it's worth the hassle. Of course, I don't wash it that much..

Hi Guys
I've also tried the Wheel Protectant and found it works well. I also found have to be careful that it's applied properly as it's easy to miss a bit which then defeats the purpose because that bit starts to collect brake dust and looks like the wheel has the pox or something. Like some of you, I wash at least once a week, so I am finding it a bit redundant as the brake dust is easy to clean off given it's short stay on the wheel. One thing I do as well is clean the entire inside and outside of the wheel using a wheel brush I picked up from Supercheap. It don't remember the brush was particularly cheap, but it is really great for doing the inside of the wheels. It even fits between the calipers and inner rim so the whole wheel can be done in one go. It's a soft brush with a rubber handle and tapers down to a rubber stopper at the other end so it cannot mark the wheel in any way and allows me to clean right through to the other side of the wheel, even the wider rear ones. |
