125i coupe?
Ok im in the market for a new car... I was interested in the 125i coupe with m sport,sunroof,bi-xenons etc.. Came to $63.6k
What would the drive away price be and how much room is there to move on this price from bmw dealers in the current economic climate? Any 125i owners here? What do you think of your car now? Does it have enough power? and have you regretted not going to the 135i. Unfortunately i cant stretch the budget to the 135i unless bmw offered me a crazy deal like Holden is doing (unlikely).. But im thinking of putting a chip/exhaust/intake into the 125i eventually.. heres a pic of my setup... and thnaks for your time guys:drinking: |

If you work for a large corporation the its likely they will be part of the BMW corporate program. You dont need to buy the car through work, just prove that your an employee and you will get the discount. I think it was around 5% which is pretty substantial. I think you could knock them down at least 5% (even without the corp discount) so make sure you shop around.
One other tip - try, try try, beg borrow or steal, get the 135. By the time you consider mods costs to a 125 - chips, exhaust etc etc (and the lost warranty issues) you are half way to bridging that gap anyway. For the extra $10k get the 135 or buy a demo / used car with up to 5000 kms on it. The 125 is a great car but the 135 is really much better value - even though its more expensive. Good luck and shop around. |

Hey mate,
welcome to the forums. looks like you're after the exact same car as mine! ive had the car for about 5 months now and i've got no complaints what so ever, absolutely love it.... well maybe the cup holders..... regarding if it has enough grunt or not, i would say it has plenty for a daily driver, and i would suggest getting a sprint booster put in. it makes a hell of a lot of difference as to how the car responds. the whole 125 v 135 thing, the way i see it is if you can afford it then why not get the 135, but if you cant i wouldnt worry too much about it, the 125 pulls pretty decently... you'll always want a faster and more powerful car no matter what you get. |

my bad, not exactly my car, i dont have the upgraded sound system!
also if those images are accurate it looks like they may have changed the rear view mirrors to the hatch ones??? they're pretty crap as bmw has cut off the bottom to corners of the mirror... minor point really... |

If your in the market for a new car, have you looked at or considered other car types you could get out there ATM with 70k as that's what that 125i will end up costing you ?? Alot of choices for that kind money...
But if you already have your heart set on a 125i, fair enough go for it  |

I came from a crap car so the 125i felt plenty fast enough, however I then drove the 135i.. bye bye 125!! Get the 135i if you can, IMO it feels just right in terms of having enough power to put a smile on your face ever time you drive it, even when pottering round town.
If you can't stretch to the 135i I'd echo Wraiths comments. I'd recommend looking at the S3.

You should be able to get a discount of around 3k then find out if the company you work for is under the Corp program.
I got a better discount over the corp program and the benefits of the program on top. It definately has enough power over the corolla.

In relation to your drive away price, factor in stamp duty of $2,280 based on $63,600 using this website: http://www.apps05.osr.nsw.gov.au/ere...otorsimple.php
On top of that you also have dealer delivery charges (varies from dealer to dealer - haggle this down as much as possible).

welcome parky..
seems like we've got the same colour combos~ coming from a civic which is quite similar to a corolla, i agree with SparklingRed it certainly does have enough power. i agree with BMWDave too, haggle on the dealer delivery.. Quote:
i tested both the 135 n the 125, but with the traffic and speed limits in metro Melbourne, it's just a wiser choice for myself to go the 125 even though the 135 is

I bought mine through a corporate programme, the "discount" is typically reduced dealer delivery, and some minimal sticker reduction, which will be buried in "Included in price" references in your invoice.
Would I prefer the cache' of the 135i, sure. Is it worth the extra money when 99% of the time you cannot access the extra power, probably not. Changing the inlet manifold to that of the 130i opens up another 35KW from what I have read, for about $1400, which will help, although loving it as is. 1100kms on the clock, still tight and driving easy. I have $15k to play, which I am subconsciously saving for an extra family wagon (X1?), and to allow for an upgrade to the Z4coupe or 335i. Not the time to be splashing out on cars lads....... kill the mortgage first.... cash is king

I got mine a couple of months ago and I'm absolutely in love with it.
I paid 53000 USD, money that could have easily bought me the 135 if I were living in the US. it's powerful, smooth and enjoyable. highly recommend it |

I got my 125 about 4 months ago. Love it, but always have 135 envy
I will make a few BMW Performance Mods down the track, but at the moment it suits me well as daily driver. Good colour choice BTW. I agree with most.... get the 135 if you can, but I can confirm you'll be very happy with the 125. I don't know too much about chips, tuning or power upgrades, but if Dazza can provide info on the manifold upgrade, I am sure most 125 owners will snap it up. Good luck

I too agree on the 135, it's absolutely the ultimate driving machine.
The 125 is still a fantastic driving machine, I like the gearshifts in the steering wheel, it's engine sound and it's performance. colors I would consider next time are white and montego blue. |

parky, I would not have any regret for 125 or 135. They are both good cars. 125 from your quote can still have negotiation. Fuel consumption, higher insurance rate and generally more expensive will depreciate in $ term more than a cheaper one. AND....... you car will look exactly like mine!

I have seen a lot of 120i convertible in Melbourne... I guess that means a lot of people think 1 coupe and convertible is a good looking car!

125 would be a superb car certainly. Only other choice around that mark is an S3 IMO but I think coupe's are sexy

Why not take the middle ground and get the 130. Bit more power to play with and a little bit cheaper then the 135. I personally prefer the hatchback in the looks department as well plus you get some extra room.
I have a 130i. Bought mine second hand for 48k. I love. Still wish I could have afforded the 135. Still wishing for a little bit of extra grunt. The s3 is a good choice and there are a F%$@ load of mods available for Audi/VW engines. easy to get the power up. Not too many mods availabel for the BMW NA engines |
