isn't the rated power at the crank the same for N54 and N55?
Why would it be that much less power at the wheel for N55?

The N54 has always been labeled as "underrated" since day one, many believe the true Hp rating is around 320. With the N55 it's closer to the 300hp mark(306hp i think) and 295 ft lbs of torque. This is based on what I've read from several articles including the one from Automobile magazine, me personally i have drive both N54 & N55 135is' and didn't notice a difference in power. Both are fast!!

The Automobile article seems to indicate that it is a wash, with all of the differences falling within the margin of error/engine variation/whatever you want to call it.

"let's remember that while the N55 put down 10 less horses than two of the N54s, a third N54 produced 10 more horsepower than the others. Meaning: 10 hp is within the noise when you're at this power level -- it's a variation of less than 4%. And you can easily see 4% variance between runs on the same engine."

Both are almost certainly underrated. I'm going to schedule a dyno soon, and then I'm pretty sure I'll get the PPK too.

True with the exception of the N54is and the torque from the N55 which is at 302. I wonder why so high??

Hope this doesn't turn into a N54 vs N55 thread.

I thought the N54is had some sort of PPK. No?

You can be sure that it will turn into a N54/N55 thread, or worse.

I've owned both.

2008 N54 135
2011 N55 135 (current)

The N54 always felt "stronger" via the butt dyno--no proof, just the way it felt.

The N55 almost feels slow at times...or that I feel as though I have to push the gas pedal through the floor to get it to move.

I've had the N55 for a year, and I have been looking lately to get into an M3 or something similar because it just doesn't feel as good as the N54 did.

Just my $.02...

Good stuff Delta!

I've been loving this tune. I think the car is even better to drive now.

What I'm really hating though are the new wipers they put on. Noisey bastards and now I have a perma-line right in the middle of my view on the windshield where the wiper stops. Damn line is annoying.

Perhaps it is the gearbox. There is a video on youtube showing how a n55 Dct slaughters a n54 in a drag race.

I just got the version 1 kit installed on my 2011 dct. I just drove the car 20 mins in traffic. Throttle response is definitely improved. Dealer had the car 2 days and decided not to charge any labor for the inconvenience. So I am pretty happy with the price.

So, we have a bone stock 2010 135 Convertible and a bone stock 2011 135 Coupe. Our 2010 with the N54 is incredibly fast.. so fast, that it feels faster than our N54 2011 135 Coupe and the vert is heavier!!!

So, we are thinking about the performance upgrade on both cars, but here is my concern. If the original factory flash on our N54 is under-rated, might the Performance upgrade make the hp/tq figures unchanged, since we sort of already had an enhancement?

For those of you who have had the PPK stage 1 kit I Installed, what was the Labor portion of your bill? I hearing/seeing quote from 1 hour all the way up to $250 to install.
Thanks.
