Take-off lag

Hi,

I have a 135i DCT and I noticed that even when the car is in sport mode and I floor the accelerator, there is a slight lag before the car takes-off. Is the common?

I have not tried the launch control yet....waiting for mileage

No, does that eliminate the lag?

I feel your DCT pain... although I have learned to overcome it. Please read through the following post:

I had the exact same concern from a dead stop when mine was new.
Let me tell you once you get to about 1,500 miles all the lag goes away.
In fact now from a dead stop I can't floor it or the tires start burning.
Here was my compliant post: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415653
and after break in

Have you guys had a ride in a 1er with a JB3/4? I think you will love what you feel.
Besides the power, BMS does wonders with the throttle smoothing and lag fix's. I think N55's feel even better with the tune, from what I've read.

I do not think either tune does anything to the DCT

I don't think the DTC is the source of the lag in question. But either way, I am pretty sure they can remap the throttle to overcome any lag if it is indeed because of the DTC software.

What does the transmission do regarding the lag? I think we need to specify if its THROTTLE lag or TURBO lag they are feeling.

After re-reading the first post, I agree. Thanks for the correction. However, the tune can still manipulate the throttle, just like the Blitz, and the one that WSTO sells (Pivot?). Maybe those are a better solution?

Its possible to hit a flat spot in traffic when driving slowly in D2 and then giving a lot of throttle at once. The real cure is to use the M mode as mentioned above.

This is the one issue that I find most annoying, other than the RFTs (now removed), because I can't get BMW to take this seriously. It ain't the DTC or the dual clutch transmission as some (including BMW) claim. If it was the transmission the tach would show the engine responding to the the gas pedal pressure immediately. It does not. The gas just doesn't come on immediately as it should. That's the lag. It is well documented amongst various BMW models but varies from model to model and from year to year. Sport mode helps a little but not consistently.

Aside from never knowing if the power will come on in time to pull into moving traffic from a stop, it is also annoying to take your foot off the gas coming into a corner then attempt to power out of that corner as normal only to coast through the corner before the power kicks in. No fun there. Dinan (and others) will sell a fix for this but we shouldn't have to get it done that way.

Uh, I'm not sure what the 135i version of the BMS Powerbox is (probably JB?), but it certainly fixed my throttle lag.
