E diff Killing rear Brake pads on a trackday. Is it just me?

Doing a few road course track days in the 135. I dont have an LSD. I am driving with the car in DTC mode, just a single press.

However I am eating rear brake pads, which I can only assume is due to the E diff. I am doing a set of rear pads per track day. This may have something to do with the face I am running stage 1.5 tune, and its lots of power to put down out of a bend. If it help I am running semi slicks too.

How does this compare to anyone else's finding? Is there a decent pad to cope with it. Or am I best to buy a cheaper pad and keep changing them?

Whats others experience of this?

DTC/DSC will inevitably put excess wear on your rear pads. If you're comfortable with it you should turn traction fully off. You'll experience less of the power being cut down when trying to power out of a turn and see more oversteer into the turns.

I kill traction once tires are warmed up and I have my bearings set. Believe or not I prefer it off during the wet as it's way too intrusive.

This doesn't stop the e diff working though? So do you not still suffer big pad wear?

What pads do you use and how many days do you get out of a set of pads?

It doesn't stop the e-diff, but the traction control is also doing brake bias control to adjust yaw of the car.

I ran HP+ pads this whole year autocrossing, with about 15 or so autocross events I'm still at 3/4 pad life

What is an auto cross event? sorry don't have them here I don't think. How long at a time are you out on track for?

When I say they are killing the pads I meant I am doing 1 track day 200 miles on track and totalling a set of BMW performance pads. Usually doing 15 minute stints on track.

+1. Got rid of the "e-diff" once I started tracking the car on a frequent basis. Got a Quaife LSD and upped the final drive ratio from 3.08 to 3.46.

As others have mentioned, turn DSC-OFF (long push of the DTC buttion), but only once your tires and brakes are warmed up, you haven't made recent modifications to your car, and you know the track very well. Ask me how I know.

Been using PFC 08 brake pads lately, and these wear very slowly on the track and on the street. This includes front and rear pads.

You're using PFC 08 on the street as your daily driving pad?

Yes. They are surprisingly good when used on the streets and cold. Not as much as bite as OE pads, but plenty powerful. No noise to be heard, except for very minor, barely noticeable peep during certain slow stops. I dont daily drive my 135i, more of a week-end car amd for errands, but track it a lot, sometimes as much as twice a week.

I have run into minor fade issues on tracks that have frequent hard braking zones, with little time and speed to cool the rotors/pads.

I can officially put my stamp of approval on these as a great dual duty pad on the 135i.

An autocross is racing around cones in a parking lot. It's a timed event. One car at a time.

found this video to show you...

Turn DSC off. If you're at the track it shouldn't be on, either that or you're not going very fast. Pad wear has always been pretty good with this car for me - even, not unexpectedly fast. I have 3 track days, 3 autoX, and half a dozen VERY fast canyon runs on my Hawk DTC70/60 combo and pads still look to be around 75%.

^^ Nice advice. Probably also good if the track has run off space, and if it hasn't been raining.

I disagree with the DTC off stuff. I never turn DTC all the way off, so if that made a difference on pad wear and was the reason the OP was eating brake pads, I wouldn't have 5 events and 28,000 miles on my OEM rears. <--Assumes all other variables, such as track demands and driver inputs, are equal. If they are not, then again, that suggests the issue is the track and/or the driver, not the DTC.

Now for lap times on the other hand, it's an entirely different story.
