K&N drop in on 128i - effect on MPG

Anyone just have the plan drop in filter... I am under warranty and do not want to do any big mods, however I would like to drop a filter that would help out in the MPGs...

Anyone have one? notice a difference? I have been reading mixed reviews, I know it depends on how you drive. I was wondering if anyone drove conservatively with the filter before and after and compared MPGs??

I have had the K&N drop in for a couple of months now and can't say that it helped out my gas consumption to a noticeable effect. It may help by a couple of miles depending on driving habits, but I cant tell

it depends on if it makes noise. mods that are supposed to help gas mileage usually sound nice, so i usually get worce mpg's because i want to hear them.

also, i dont know about this car, but i know some vehicles have issues running oiled filters because of MAF/MAP sensors getting coated in the oil after time. just something to think about.

I last installed a K&N drop in filter in a Honda 6 cyl. motorcycle many years ago. There was absolutely no difference in gas mileage - the only advantage was that the K&N could be cleaned, oiled and re-used.

Tom
This was the same reason I bought the K&N

After a couple weeks of testing, the drop in filter does increase mileage!! Ive avg 1.5 more mpg with the K&N Filter! With gas prices like this it should pay itself off in a couple months. I got it on amazon for cheap!

more air equates to more fuel usage in my opinion. expect less mpg, enjoy abit more sound if any.

Fuel economy increased. It takes both gas and air to make combustion, the factory filter does not breathe well. This added air flow probably is not enough to skew the fuel map at all. So it ultimately is just burning fuel more efficiently. Hints the 1-1.5 increase

Sounds about the same.
