fuse panel rant

What was BMW thinking with the 1er fuse panel design? I just finished hard wiring my radar detector. Working in that tiny space set so far back is downright painful.

For me it was not as painful as paying someone $50 to do it. While I was there, I added two additional 'add-a-fuse' circuits to the box and coiled the wires so I won't have to go back there when I hardwire the GPS and fone charger. For the radar detector, I went the RJ11 two-wire route connected directly to the add-a-fuse. For the GPS and Fone, I'm attaching a female cig lighter receptacle to the add-a-fuse and I'll plug in the existing charger to it, as it converts voltage to 5V.

Until I get a trim tool to punch the wires under the pillars/headliner, I have the det. mounted on the dash, in the middle of the car against the windshield. Plan was to move it to the rear view, but I kind of like it where it is. Keeps my eye on the road more. Not sure if the rear facing laser will receive though, as I think the det is slightly lower than the upper edge of the rear seat --- does that make a difference?

Mounted high (near review) really helps detection, especially if you have a V1 or something with front and back receivers.
