Logic 7

Why does all the sound on the Logic 7 seem to come from the front, i don't feel like i'm "surrounded" by all the speakers as i did in my friend's 2 year old lexus.

have you played with the settings to get it how you like it ?

One thing that usually makes a big difference is setting your equiliser settings to look like a V shape.

Standard they are all in a line -------, but increasing the edges to form a V shape makes it sound much better

Then you can play with the balance and fader

if u press the button with music note icon on it, it will take u to the setting. Scroll over and select the MUSIC icon- maybe that will help. I noticed my system sounded weird and realized that someone unchecked the that icon. Try it...

Also make sure your fader and balance settings are correct as well.

The Logic 7 is a downgrade in quality from the HK system in the e46. I even found that the stock e46 stereo sounded better. The logic 7 sounds better only on medium-loud to loud volume.

The front bias is not just a matter of fade settings. Pushing fade to the back ruins the tonal balance of the tracks being played, making it sound all wrong.

Are you serious? I guess I should ask, what kind of music do you listen to because with everything I have heard the Logic7 is great.

The Logic7 stereo in the 330i is a big improvement over the E46 stereo in every way. It has More power, better speakers, additional subwoofers, digital processing, surround simulation. I have heard the HK in the E46, the regular stereo in the E46, and I own an E39 with the DSP; and the Logic7 sounds better than ALL of these, without a doubt.

You'll probably find yourself alone in feeling this way. I have never heard of anyone preferring the E46 HK stereo over the L7.

The front bias is there for a reason.

The whole point of surround sound like L7 is to provide a good front soundstage (just like watching a theatre movie or attending a jazz/rock/orchestral concert) with surround cues from the back, NOT to envelope you with massive sound that is the same front/side/back. If you prefer the latter, well then, don't get the L7 and do go aftermarket with more powerful amp and speakers.

When I first listened to the Logic7 system, I thought it was a good system, but I wasn't overly impressed. However, after adjusting a few settings on the equalizer, I came away very impressed. I have it set to give a very clear and balanced sound. I wasn't looking for an excessively bass heavy sound, but more of an "accurate" sound.

I keep my system set as "concert hall". This actually gives an even more pronounced "forward" soundstage, which I actually prefer. Under most listening situations, the sound is coming from in front of the listener. For me, having the sound coming from all directions, actually degrades the listening experience.

Until recently it seemed that BMW had one of the worst stereo systems. I still think the Mark Levinson system that Lexus uses is among the best car audio systems, but the Logic7 system is starting to catch up.
