Magnaflow Exhaust?
Was going to pick up a BMW PE however, when I called my mechanic to talk about install he mentioned he can set me up with a Magnaflow cat back exhaust for 650$.
Does anyone have this exhaust (128i)? If so, do you like it and did you have any issues with any sensors after install. It's a catback so I don't believe it will effect the CEL system but if I do install I don't want to have check engine light issues after. Thanks! |

I have a 135i but I can tell you that the BMW PE exhaust is heads above any other exhaust although it is a bit quieter. It has no drone and it sounds exotic in a somewhat subdued way. I have heard the magnaflow and it is coarser. In the end we have a straight 6 and its sound will never compare to a V8 or V10, sixes, like fours can be very boomy. The trick is to make them sound exotic but not excessively loud and the PE does just that. My 135i is an N55 running stock mid pipe with resonator and the PE exhaust axle back and it sounds awesome yet retains some civility, without resonator it is a bit louder but still with no drone. I have reduced my radio usage just to listen to the exhaust;-)

Check out Maddad Whisper. I have the Street Series and love it, but it might be a little loud for a daily-driver. Sounds comparable to the PE (nice sound, not too loud, no drone), but for just a little more than the Magnaflow.
Cheers, Bryan PS> In fact, the Maddad would be very little extra money as it's currently on sale.

I've got the Magnaflow on my 128. I get comments every day about how great it sounds. there isn't much droning in the cabin...that said i do have the Injen intake as well. In all honesty.. probably the best $650 i have ever spent.

I loved my PE when i had it but it wasn't loud enough for me. So i bought a 135i axle back, cut off my resonator and mated it to the mids. Sounds like the PE but louder and with slightly more rasp. i love it.

No CELs here... I'm running the magnaflow and love it... I was honestly impressed with the performance bump. I wanted to compare with the bmw pe but I tuned my car before I was able to go head to head with one... The only drawback I see to the magnaflow is that it's too quiet for my taste (don't go by initial start up it gets louder about a week or so into it)... But I say go for it... It's half the price and actually replaces the resonator and piping back to the secondary cats (which I might gut to get a little more performance and sound) bmw pe is just an axle back

It's just a muffler, it shouldn't trigger any CELs. Those come from when you mess with the cats and the 02 sensors as a result.

I installed the PE on my 128i a few months ago...bought it from a guy on here for only $425 including shipping (it was basically brand new, under a few thousand miles it), got it installed for $70 out the door. It sounds FANTASTIC!!! Deep, sporty, strong., very sexy..I cant tell you the compliments ive gotten on it! And its loud, my brothers could clearly hear me accelerating on the highway two cars back windows closed.

I haven't heard a bmw pe in person but from what I gather (correct me of I'm wrong anyone that has heard both) the difference between the two as far as sound is concerned is that the magnaflow is quieter but throatier where as the bmw pe is louder and raspier... So to the op It comes down to personal preference so whatever works for you
Also another thing I liked about the magnaflow is that the tips fill out the cutout for the exhaust completely... Looks awesome expecially when they're clean |

Magnaflow 16525 I believe is what you should be searching for - I tried to lowball some sellers on Ebay hoping to get a deal with the "best offer" but haven't found the right price yet..still trying to find one under 650$. |
