JB4, 08 135i

I've done considerable research and comparisons between all of the most popular tuning kits for the N54 power-plant, all leading me to the JB4. I'm very interested in its flexibility, steering wheel map/gauge control, shift lights, preloaded maps (incl stock), and versatility based on other mods.

Is there anyone that has negative feedback or dirt on the JB4?? ..very close to buying it!

Also, can I modify the map parameters using a laptop?

Thanks~~

They are all good, jb4 is all what it's cracked up to be and more. You can change settings in your laptop also.

I have had JB4 for 90 days. It definitely lives up to all it's advertised to be and you can do a code clearing, map resetting, data logging with lap top. If you follow instructions carefully, installation is pretty straight forward but takes about 1 hour.

Only downside i see is in the installation. Not as fast and easy as a Cobb or a JB+ or SSTT. Don't rush the installation@ I had to be somewhere, so I was trying to do it as fast as I could. I snapped off a little flap by accident (not a big deal, but I'm afraid of what else I coulda broke/snapped off), and I gouged by thumb on some sharp plastic in the ECU compartment. Did everything in like 50 minutes for the first time, didn't even save that much time by hurrying.

Only other criticisms for the JB4, are not having a digital boost gauge or digital IAT temp gauge since it can be a little tricky to read the fuel and temperature gauges when they're hijacked and you're trying to accelerate. Also I keep spinning stock tires at like 40 mph.. Man it sucks

hahaha. Thanks for all the great info! ...there's a set of non-run flat shoes on the horizon, too! I'm either going with the Sport MaxxGTs or Extreme Contact DWs.

There is a custom map you can design with the JB4 and we usually ask customers to send us some datalogs so we can help you make the proper map

Other then that there have been hundreds of happy JB4 customers in the last month or so, so you would be in good company.

You CAN hook up aftermarket gauges so it doesn't hijack the other stock ones?

I bought my 135i about a month ago, and got my JB4 just a few days later. I had to take my car in for service, so I removed it, then it snowed, and I had to reschedule for a few days later. I HATED driving the car without the JB4!! It's easily the best $500 I have ever spent on a car. You get SO much more power, it's very customizable, and like everybody else said only takes around 45-an hour to install. I can remove or install it in about 25 minutes now though

I'm interested in the JB4, but am interested in what the effect is on the fuel mileage IF you are disciplined enough to stay out of the throttle. Can anyone answer this?

I was able to achieve an average of 35 mpg driving around Omaha for about 50 miles on it. At highway speeds I can pretty easily get 30+. That is from the carputer though, I am not sure about the mileage/gas at fillup because I can only drive for a short while without mashin the gas...lowering me to about 15mpg haha

that's true, but i was just hoping that there would be an option to display the values electronically using the little screen like where the digital speedo shows up if you get your car coded that way. not a big complaint at all

no effect on mileage whatsoever if you drive the car normally
