Minor update:

The new parts ("very low-ohm resistors") have arrived at the dealership. I'm scheduled to go in on the 7th. I will try to provide details about results, and any relevant TSBs.

Word.

Yeah, I've got the same problem with my Hi-Fi. Something's not right. My stock stereo in my old 120i sounded better! Keep the updates coming please!!

My car has been in the dealer for a couple of days now with the same problem. Supposedly BMW NA does not know about the problem. The dealer confirmed the noise in a demo car and they think it may be related to the DSC.

Will keep you guys updated.

Bad news.

Just got back from the dealer. The factory rep's suggestion (using very-low-ohm resistors in the stereo circuitry) did NOT fix the problem.

I also asked, and there is currently no TSB that the dealer is aware of.

The service rep tried to give a lame excuse about "Well, it's just not supposed to be listened to that loud." I pressed and she suggested I bring the car *back* in for the factory representative (different one this time) this coming Tuesday.

I'm also going to bring an updated description of the problem, and the steps taken so far.

Kinda pissed off.

What a bummer. Hopefully, there's better luck with the new factory rep.

In my car, the problem still exhibits itself even when the volume isn't loud.

I've had my 135 bout 5 months. Premium system with HD radio.
I have 15k home system being an audiphile nerd. I do not have any of the buzz/bass distortion issues noted in this thread. My only issue is the high frequency response of the system.

^ For me, it's present for only a handful of songs. It's possible you just haven't come across it yet...

This thread scares the crap out of me as I am taking delivery of my 128 with premium sound in the next 3-4 days. I went with the upgraded audio with the firm belief it would be worth it, being somewhat of an audiophile myself and working in the sound industry. Well, I guess only time will tell!! (meh..just roll down the windows and crank it up, you won't hear any wierd noises...LMAO!)

Yup -- that's exactly the case with mine as well, and I told her as much. She wasn't quite sure what to say.

I'm so happy I found this thread. I have premium audio and the exact same problem. I listen to "Area 38" (electronic music) on Sirius satellite radio frequently and I hear this problem all the time. It occurs during bass hits and seems like it is coming from the passenger side rear of the car. It's almost like a tin-y vibration which is very annoying. I used to think it was the satellite radio because when I noticed it was particularly bad, I would download the song that was on the satellite radio on itunes and play it on my iphone (through the aux in) and I wouldn't hear the distortion anymore. I realize now that I'd always did that test when the car was parked and the distortion only seems to happen when the car is moving.

Between satellite radio, HD radio, and premium audio, I 've spent almost $2000 on audio options on this car. I will be VERY upset if no resolution is found for this problem. In the meantime, I'm going to have someone else drive the car and climb in the back seat and try and pinpoint where the noise is coming from. I hope it's a simple as a poor ground.

So, I came back from the dealer. They could not find a fix for my car after a week or so. They say that BMW is working on a fix and they will call me after they test the fix on one of their cars. The good news is that as a compensation for keeping my car for a week they are going to fly us to the performance center in south carolina, all included with a day at the track.

Just wanted to get my vote in as one more person that has this issue. I really just noticed it this morning (before reading this thread: no power of suggestion situation here ; )). I was listening to Eric B and Rakim's Greatest Hits and noticed it pretty easily. They key is for songs with a strong kick drum and/or bassline, and relatively "sparse" other instrumentation, in my experience. I think this is why numerous people have specifically singled out trance/electronica type music.

Is there any more news on this? My radio is driving me CRAZY. It sounds so horrible on the highway I can't take it anymore. With premium audio, HD radio, and Satellite radio I spend nearly $2k on this crappy system and I am upset. I haven't called my dealer yet because I know there is nothing they can do, but I'm thinking I should now.

im SO glad to see more people reporting on this problem... i too spent a shitload of money on audio equipment (HD radio, SAT radio, USB, HiFi, etc) and this buzz/rattle makes listening truly painful.

LETS GET THIS FIGURED OUT!!
