Try putting stock intake back. The Injen could be sucking in all that hot air which for an NA will affect more than the 135i

My 135i feels better in the cold of course, but doesnt seem to phased by the heat to be honest.

29/11 UPDATE

So I did some more runs last night and much to my delight, I got some much better results:

7.89 +/- 0.25 (compared to a previous average of 9.23 +/- 0.47)

After studying the graphs very carefully, I've concluded that the improvement is due to a combination of the following 2 factors:

1) Calibration of the dynolicious app. Yesterday morning I had calibrated the app before I set out, but it turns out the accelerometer in the iPhone is very sensitive to temperature changes, so in reality we probably needed to re-calibrate it every 10 minutes.

2) Heat of the air. Our morning runs were recorded in near 40 degree heat, while last night's runs were at 30C.

Now if we make the following assumptions:

1) The app was not calibrated properly
2) The heat of the air did not have a significant effect on engine performance
3) Our method of using the stopwatch was inaccurate

then I am pleased to present the corrected times:

Auto:
stock, 1 person on board: 8.50 +/- 0.16
pbx, 1 person on board: 8.00 +/- 0.34
pbx, 2 people on board: 8.56 +/- 0.09
best run, 1 person on board: 7.53

Manual:
stock, 2 people on board: 7.50 +/- 0.40
pbx, 2 people on board: 7.33 +/- 0.30
best run, 2 people on board: 6.75

I estimate the 0-100 for the manual with only 1 person on board to be ~6.3s.

How were you shifting your Auto? Manually or auto switch? Did you remember it launches in 2nd and you'll have to physically move it to M1?
The next chance I get I'll try it with DSC off and DTC on. I always drive my auto in full manual, and yes I remembered to shift down to first gear and turn the aircon off etc

I also tried upshifting at 6k rpm (based on the fact that power drops off quite rapidly approaching the 7k rpm redline) but the curves show it's better to let it upshift itself at redline.

The problem with this is that the engine will take a long time to re-adjust itself to the stock intake. Given how much of an effect the environmental factors have on both the cars and the measuring equipment, it makes it difficult to compare times before/after intake.

I wasn't aware you could have DSC off and DTC on? As far as i was aware, i thought you could only have DTC off or both DSC and DTC off (long button press).

Can someone explain? Being quite a noob here....

turning off DSC (one press) activates DTC. the long press will deactivate both.

hope it makes sense.

If we go by mileage/time you are far from a n00b

The default setting is DSC on, DTC off. Press it momentarily to deactivate DSC and activate DTC (which is a less strict version of DSC), and press and hold to deactivate both DSC and DTC.

You may be suprised. A lot of owners report immediately improvements going from BMS duals to stock on the 135i. In any case the effect of the decresed intake temps will be felt immediately and as I said previously, on a NA car it will be more noticeable than FI (with intercooler).

Janus' impression was different; after fitting the Injen intake he said it took the car a while to adjust (or was it wmj in brissy who also has the Injen?)

I'd definitely like to do a comparison, but if there is any lag in the engine getting used to the stock intake again, thus taking a while to get back up to stock output, then it will obviously show an unfair performance increase for the intake.

I hope it actually does make a difference though, as it would explain why he gets so much closer to the manufacturer reported time than I did.

Righto! I thought default was DTC and DSC on.

Ie: One press would deactive DTC, the long press deactivated DTC and DSC.

No worries then

You would be surprised how much heat soak affects NA cars. Two of my Ford V8s have suffered dreadfully when they got heat soak. The ED Sprint went from mid 15 1/4 miles to hogh 16s with no change but heat soak ( after 11 straight runs .. there was no one else there ! ) and the boss 5.4 had a noticable drop in power when it was hot. Yet to be able to wind out the G6ET in the heat.

ok, good to hear some more promising results Chylld, and that a couple of factors have effected our times. Still not all that happy with where we're at.. lets hope for a cool day sometime soon, would be good to do some more runs in 20 degrees instead.

Nice work guys! I might have to try this dynolicious app too to see what times the 130 pulls.

If you're still hungry for a lower time, may I suggest finding two spare wheels to put semi slick tyres on?

Alright, we'll get something going for this weekend. Perhaps Friday night?

There are objective data you can get from an intake, if you think it is taking hot air in.

Most car measure intake temperature and you can get this data from a OBD scanner.

e.g. OBDkey and its software.

I was going to say recalibrate your iphone but you've already done that. The other factor is heat which slows down your car especially with an injen intake. Also, you need to practice rev launching with DTC/DSC off. You will only get your best time with all the nannies off.

might be an interesting exercise to put the regular intake back on and see how it goes. Trouble is I'm a very very lazy man..
