yet another ebay part

I've searched, but I can't find any good info on this Godspeed oil cooler.

I realize it is universal and will take some customized mounting. I'm wondering if it is only intended to replace the stock oil cooler (and if it is superior in that case), or if it could be added as a secondary cooler.

Hoping someone has tried it or something similar.

Hmmm... doesn't look any larger than the stock. Doesn't look to be secondary either. I would stick with a real upgrade that will actually make a difference like the Evolution Racewerks oil cooler upgrade kit.

Looks tempting, maybe after OCC. Its either this kit or a custom assembled one by a local race shop.

stay away from godspeed products. I came from the subaru world and godspeed makes terrible turbos, i/c's and the like. Their stuff might be cheap, and there's a reason for that!

Some people seem to like their intercooler but I still don't trust them.

So the Summit Racing oil cooler is a good option then?

I have the ER dual setup and man it does work very well. I wouldn't do anything else but that it's proven.

they have a huge selection of universal coolers in pretty much every size imaginable with better quality that godspeed...that said, chances are you will need to get custom fittings for the hoses to work, which I am not sure is even possible off the hard lines from the pump

if you look a ER's pictures you can see the adapter they have for the oem pump...that is the piece that makes it worth the extra money...I'm not even sure if anyone has successfully a custom/universal oil cooler

I did wind up buying the ebay kit, and i also ordered the e46 oil cooler adapter from bimmerworld.

I think I have everything I need, but I have yet to get around to the project. Too much personal stuff going on. Besides, i have all winter. (I know, famous last words.)

Let us know how it goes... I didn't see this thread earlier or else I would have told you to look up the godspeed on the e90post side of the forums. Lots of complaints about a bad fit... but who knows maybe it works on the 1er; we do have a different bumper design and the shrouding behind there is probably different as well. Good luck and... er.. godspeed!

Well, remember, this is the oil cooler we're talking about here, not intercooler. So this is a custom job all the way. No "fit" to be concerned about. My plan is to put this in the drivers fender.

Well, it is finally time to update this thread. I have an HPDE coming up in a couple of weeks, so I had to buckle down and get around to making this happen.

Unfortunately, I discovered that, with the pieces I had on hand, I couldn't add this as a second cooler. So I went about swapping out the stock unit for this one. I took the measurements after the stock was out and found this Ebay unit to be the same width as stock, but 2 inches taller and 3/4 of an inch thicker. I think that latter number is probably the more important one as you are talking about a 60% increase over stock.

So with the lines and fittings that came with the kit, I had no problem reaching the passenger fender from the oil filter housing, and the adapter plate from bimmerworld was exactly the ticket for attaching to the housing. To make it fit, I only had to cut off one of the stock mounting bolts (the lower one). I then just bent up the tabs on the new cooler so I could bolt them directly to the "frame" of the car in front of the stock bracket. I was still able to use the stock hanger bracket to hold up the far side of the cooler.

I then trimmed the duct a bit, as well as the inner fender. I put the stock vent back on for now, but it is getting pushed out a little too much and my larger than stock tire is rubbing when at full left lock. I will find something flat at home depot to screw in there.

As for how well it works? Well, I don't think I'll really know until the track event. I figure, if needed, I could at least very easily add a second cooler now to this setup.

So I went to a track day today (and tomorrow). While it wasn't a HOT day, it was pretty nice. 74 degrees. Which is actually warmer than it was when I came to this same exact track back in October. At that time, I was experiencing limp mode after just 2 laps if running the JB4. Turning off the JB4 would elminate the problem.

Now, today, I ran all day with the JB4 on and had NO limp mode. So I think that bodes well for this setup. The oil gauge showed about 1 to 1.5 ticks over the 250 mark at its high point. And just driving through the paddock after running would drop temp down to 230-240. With stock cooler, it would hang at 250 through the paddock and until I let it sit idling for a few mins.

Hey thanks for the updates! Looks like it's definitely an upgrade over stock. You're sorta local to me so I'm wondering what track you went to?

Also, I took off that plastic grating vent (in the passenger wheel well, right?) because it was rubbing, and since I made sure that the tire doesn't rub against the oil cooler itself, I've had no issues with it being exposed.

I'm with the NJ BMWCCA at Thunderbolt yesterday and today.

Yes, even after modding the platic vent a bit, it still stuck out too far and I was getting rubbing at full left lock. I didn't want to leave it exposed just in case I ever kick up a rock or other object. So I went to home depot and bought a sheet of metal grating used for holding mud under tile. Cut a piece, spray painted it, and screwed that in place. No rubbing and it is rigid enough to offer at least some protection. Sorry, but I didn't take a pic of it. Its really nothing special.
