Service Oil Reset Now 17000 mi?
So a few months ago I changed the oil and used Carly to reset the service light. Instead of resetting to 12,000 it now says 17,000 mi or 1 year. Did something change? My wife's car recently went to the indy repair shop for an oil change and all of a sudden her Mini Countryman also says 17,000 for the service light.
Anyone else notice the new longer service interval? Did BMW extend it from 12k to 17k? I don't even trust 12k and just change the oil every 6,000 - 7,000 mi or 1 year, whichever comes first. For the 135i with my new commute that will be every 6 mo. For the wife's car it will be annually give or take b/c she hardly drives much.

BMW's service intervals have been a joke since they started paying for your first 4 years of service. Funny how that worked... oil changes every 15 k. miles, no trans. oil changes, no diff. oil changes, no coolant changes. Sadly, "Lifetime fill" doesn't set off any alarm bells for some.

Interesting. I don't know if BMW would be able to access your car to update the interval remotely, or maybe set it so that it changes from 12 to 17k after you reach a certain mileage. I wonder if it the car is trying to be too smart and does an analysis of the health and predicts the life/interval for the next oil change based off of that, but that seems too involved (and kinda dumb, not sure I trust the "Oil health" readings from a sensor too much anyways, especially on a car this old).
