Pre expiring SULEV Warranty check?

I recently welcomed a very low mileage 2008 128i convertible to my home~44k miles and everything appears in great condition, the car looks like a brand new car (even minimal rust on the undercarriage.. which is impressive for a North East car)

It appears that there is an outstanding recall for the PCV valve heater that I was planning on taking the car in for.

Could I have them see if anything else needed fixing that fall under SULEV warranty? When does the SULEV warranty expire exactly? It seems the prod date was 6/19/2008.. I'm not sure when the delivery date was, but Carfax shows a predelivery inspection that occurred on 7/22/2008 and registered on 7/24/08. The car did just past a NYS inspection by the previous owner and has the sticker in place.

I was going to put some miles on the car for a week or two to see if any issues crop up, but was wondering if it was wise to wait if I am so close to expiration of the warranty (in case something meets warranty).

Would dealers want to look around to see if there is anything they can fix under the warranty, or would they tend to shy away from warranty work? I am in NYS and car will be registered in NYS for what it matters (and was originally a NYS car).

Dealers aren't going to elect to perform sulev warranty work
You'll have to specifically point out the items. Maybe take it in for the PCV recall, and have they perform an inspection. If any SULEV items are on their list, you bring it up then
But you need to be sure you're in a state that actually covers the SULEV stuff
If so, it's 15 yrs, 150,000 mi

They woukd rather burn themselves at the stake than do a pre-SULEV expiration check. They hate it. Techs only make half rate on warranty jobs. Same with the SA's. Also SULEV work means more work (phones, emails, fax's -time) for the SA, so they do everything they can to get out of it.

FYI - the dealership I go to charges each item as an hour of labor. Each item can be very granular and this is where you might have to call BMWNA if the SA is trying to fleece you (kind of an unfair statement due to the half rate, but it is what it is). That hour of diagnosis is only credited back on the items that needed work. All of the other diagnosis charges are still yours to pay.

The details on the warranty are vague by design. There are some threads in this forum, but you'll have to search for yourself.

All of that being said... It's worth it to jump through hoops. Getting work done at the dealership gives you an additional 2 years of warranty on those parts.

Find a trusty mechanic to give your car a proper post-purchase inspection. If they find something on that list, then you go to the dealership.

Foe what it's worth, I got a VCG leak covered just at the SULEV expiration. I made the appt in mid July, and appointment was 8/1, 1 day past day of expiration (my SA counted number of months from delivery) but covered it without a problem since I made the appt prior to expiration. Great service overall.

If work is performed at an indy that is covered under the warranty if done at BMW, is there a way to get reimbursed for what was paid to the indy?
