de-accelerating??

my sales man gave me this flyer on decelerating my bmw at around 1200 miles. it states: "find a hilly road. drop into a lower gear and power up the top of the hill, let off the gas peddle and let the engine under load hold the car back going down hill. repeat for a few miles." he told me after i do this it should make my car more responsive and some what faster. has anyone ever heard of this??

I say

Instead, find a hilly winding road and take it fast, then repeat a few times, faster each time. I don't think this would make your car more responsive, but should make you happy!

Sounds like fun to try it out. If it works, great, if it doesn't work, no harm done i suppose.

There are all sorts of ideas and advise as to how to extract as much from the engines as possible. Maybe some may help, while other may falter. As long as we keep those ideas in perspective and not do silly things with the car, we can have some fun trying anyway.

I keep my options open but not expect anything.

Decelerating the engine under load (ie. in gear) produces pressure that supposedly helps properly seat the piston O rings for better compression and power.

Actually, this is better during break in.

Climbing the hill under power produces more heat and pressure in the combustion chamber, which helps to seat the rings.

The process of seating the rings creates very small pieces of metallic debris.

Coasting down the hill in gear produces higher than normal vacuum in the combustion chamber. This helps to suck oil from the crankcase up into the piston ring area, and flush out the debris created by powering up the hill.
