Just wanted to know is it possible to retro-fit the USB port after the cars built? Or is it a factory option?

i think if you get all the parts and had the car coded it could but it would be hard- you can just buy the BMW ipod interface adapter that lets you put the ipod in the glove box and works just as well

yes it can...you essentially have 2 options.

1. purchase the ipod adapter from UnitedBMW / Tischer / or your local dealer. About $300 and requires you to recode your radio. doesnt work if you have a cd changer

2. purchase a mObridge which gives you ipod and bluetooth capabilities. Nicer bluetooth than BMW offers. This works through your steering wheel function etc. This option runs $699 and also requires coding with Autologic which only certain installers have. This kit is MUCH nicer than the BMW offered product and much less than if you paid for usb/ipod and bluetooth while ordering your car. The vendor EAS has been listing this kits.

remember too that 2009s are not prewired for CD changers so if the 6fl runs off of that then you are pretty much out of luck without doing the wiring for that set up

ah cool cool yea checkin an 08 model at the moment so I don't really care if the cable is in the glovebox or where it is I just wanted to know if it's possible to add the IPOD/USB capability after factory.

Another question I had was if it only has the standard radio/cd player and I want to upgrade sounds.. Do you usually leave the head-deck in there and just upgrade the speakers / subwoofer?

Bmw dealer while back told me there is an after-factory audio upgrade option for around $1800 or somethin. Maybe thats the go..

the glove box route is nowhere near 1800, that said it will only work for the ipod and not be a USB port

he is talking about the audio upgrade costing $1800, not the ipod connection in the glovebox.

As previously stated the glovebox conenction is only for the ipod not a usb port
