lol I need to use the word "fiddling" more often!

The dealer offered to do the Dinan tune and assured me it doesn't void the warranty. Quoted price Dinan + BMW exhaust = $3600 at the dealership.

Yeah i would love to do the dinan tune but having jb3 for just $600 and ~ $2000 in my pocket is hard to justify going dinan. If with the bt cable or ct can truly keep you from getting voided then its a clear choice.

I want to be clear that it's not the end all solution to have even the bt scanner which is the best and most advanced tool out there (to my knowledge) for clearing codes on our car. If u have major failure, you would not be able to choose exactly what codes to delete and which to leave. If this happens and u have a tuner related code as well as codes for bmw to see other things which went wrong, no way to just remove just tuner code. May have to remove mods then clear codes then drive again to get codes needed for bmw to fix.

thank you that was one of the things i was wondering when i said can you select which codes to erase.
My main purpose of my OP was to better understand the whole code managing, as i said i have no experience when it comes to "fiddling" with the codes. My experience extends only to bolt-ons, suspension and breaks. So ECU fiddling and managing knowledge is only theoretical at this point.

Ive had a Dinan SC kit, a Dinan exhaust, and a Dinan stage 1 suspension installed on my M3 for about 11 yrs and the way it works is, your BMW warranty is voided on those parts, but it is replaced by a Dinan warranty.. Dinan pays the Dealer to implement the warranty so the owner has as seamless an experience as possible. If Dinan goes out of business, it would be up to the selling dealer, based on good will, to cover those items with or without reimbursement from Dinan.

i'd recommend the procede v4 over the jb3. i ran an 18 ohm jb3 for 4 months or so, then switched to the procede. it's a night and day difference at the part throttle and overall smooth feel the procede offers. plus, it's much more advanced and includes canbus technology and timing control. i liked the bang for the buck power the jb3 offered, the procede is definitely more refined and safer, however.

So what happens if your turbos quit on you? Bmw replaces them while dinan pays the bill or vice versa? I just think in theory it sounded great to me but I would like to know someone who had had major problems and had it all l taken care of seamlessly without finger pointing. Isn't out true that if u use non dinan parts they void ur warranty also?

I must confess, I had a not wholly satisfactory relationship with Dinan.. What happened was this. A couple years after i had his SC installed at my Dinan selling BMW dealer, I upped the boost and had an intercooler and custom software written and installed by one of the most proficient tuners of these cars in the country. Not long after, I blew a weld in the muffler in my Dinan exhaust.. It happened with about 40k miles on the exhaust, and because its warrantied for 50k miles by Dinan, I expected my selling dealer to install a new exhaust.

Dinan refused to cover it due to my increased boost and intercooler!!!!! Nobody can tell me that Steve wasnt looking for a way out.. Honestly, if anything, the intercooler cools the charge and should have no part in causing the muffler in his exhaust to fail ... As a result I purchased an AA exhaust, which has been on the car for a similar amount of time, all the while being exposed to increased boost and the intercooler, and its performing righteously!

Id be very leery of paying industry leading prices for warranty issues which frequently get treated as mine was.

Oh I would agree. Except the phrase "truly keep you from getting voided" seems to be only backed up by people posting on the internet.

Like I said, peace of mind has a price. In this case a hefty one to be sure.

N54 Tune comparison chart

I'm not tuned yet, but I think I'll be going w/ Vishnu... both appear to be great options though, with excellent customer service, and a true passion to serve the enthusiast community! I think it's a win-win situation no matter what tune you go with!

Remember, this list is showing the current jb3. The Jb3 G4 coming out later this month or next month will have lot's more features including the CANbus, etc, etc, etc..

Per Terry on the map guide, it doesn't say that maps 1-5 will throw codes
I only run Map3 and I throw codes all the time. Get the BT tool and play it safe.

Is the BT cable or the CAN tool better? Since both are offered at the site as packages and the can tool is far cheaper and can be used in any car. Is there any major benefit from the BT or any down side to the Ct?

They mean the hidden airmass manipulation detection codes. But for $50 no reason not to just get the CT (BMS CAN Tool).
