You can achieve a more prominent crackle and pop sound with the PPK upgrade from BMW. Here's an example;

In your original post you sound like you want a more prominent sound on upshifts.. PPK will not achieve this, but you will get the pops and burbles on off-throttle, or overrun as some call it. Catless DP and resonator delete will definitely help you on a louder upshift "burp" noise.

That's because you have an N55. With DCT. With PE exhaust. Opening up the exhaust at all, in any way amplifies the "burp" sound on upshifts. PPK helps with the wonderful burbles and pops on overrun.

To get Pops on up shift, I run in manual mode with sport OFF. Shifting at around 2500 rpm gives great pops. If I run in sport mode then I don't get the pops as the shifts are too fast for the pop.
I have neither PPK, JB4 or PE - just stock!

This is true.. especially stock. You don't hear so much of the "burp" sound with the cat in place. Sport mode off is pretty neat.. I like the single "pop" on upshifts rather than the burp sound. Sometimes

Catless DP gives me great pops and burps on upshifts. I prefer the sound of sport mode off. Sometimes I get a good one with sport mode on but it usually shifts too quick.

I have a jb4 and my car makes REALLY loud pops in gear changes. I also have a catless DP and full 3" exhaust.
