Socal Smog Question

For Socal people: Will the car pass a smog check if you have a BMS intake and N55 midpipe on a N54 engine? I need to do smog by June and not sure if I need to put stock intake and N54 midpipe back on just to pass? Thanks in advance.

Your not going to pass visual with the intake for sure.

If there are cats in the mid pipes for N54 then again might not pass visual. I could see them over looking this as long as you have your main cat in the DP.

To my understanding the new smog process is visual inspection and plug into OBD port and they check for codes, no tail pipe sniff.

This is for Cali smog.

Thanks. I was wondering if cali smog included visual inspection. I think I'll try putting the stock intake back on and see if they will overlook the N55 midpipe since it does look factory. Or find a smog shop that will overlook all of it

You'll be fine with the midpipe but put the stock intake back on.

The shop wont even look under your car.

Why would the intake be an issue? (seriously curious and willing to be educated) I understand if it is the law but what's the rationale behind it?

There is none; it's stupid.
