135i vs. Mustang GT

Stock 135i vs. Mustang GT Both around the same HP and torque. Who do you think will win a drag? My friend has a GT and he's been talking a-lot of shit. Wanna get some second opinions.

lol my friend is the same with a mustang gt. so annoying everyday he asks what the exact model is (135i) just to see if his is faster. bothers me so much lol but yes of course the 135 is faster in a drag. and 100% IMO a better car

Well, why don't you try it out for real... all the numbers and stats aren't going to convince anyone until you see it for yourself.

Maybe not the most accurate table but it appears to be actual recorded times instead of mfg specs. By those numbers it's close with the 135i ranked slightly faster but it would probably come down to a driver's race.

just go to a race track and try him. what do you have to loose? him being modded is just a built in excuse if you loose. because really, even with 20hp (what's that, 7% advantage), its still a drivers race. drag racing has more to do with being able to get the car to hook up than a 7% hp advantage. it is an art in and of itself. the more you practice the better you'll get, even though the car won't get any faster.

the cars are very close in a drag. the 135 has a clear advantage when the roads get curvy and it stops better. so 135 is the clear performance winner.

Do you honestly need to show him/her that the 135i is a better car? But on that note, smoke'em! It will be close and most likely a drivers race...depending on which tranny in each.

135i is also slightly lighter, with power readily available in low rpm.

3 huge disavantages of the mustang

The mustang gt is pushing 3,600lb curb weight, Also the full toque range does not peak until 5,750 rpm.
Also ford vehicles do not hold value, and the build quality is very very poor, when compared to many manufactures

If you buddy beats you, you still win because you have a better built vehicle. You get way better gas mileage. more comfortable ride and you have one of the most wanted vehicles for years to come.

The 135i curb weight is 3,300 the torque range with the 135i is wild @ 1,400rpms You should be able to destroy your buddy every time. Even if he had mods he still might have a problem.

Stock for stock, E46 M3s walk them every time, especially up top. A 135i can keep up with an M3, so yeah.... Bye bye Mustang.

Get a video of it!

135i: turbo, 300hp/3438lbs
Stang GT: 300hp/3483lbs

135i wins all things (drivers) being equal ...assuming these numbers are correct

What is it with mustang drivers? I was on the highway the other day and a GT wanted to race. I just laughed and shook my head but he stayed on me. It was clear he wasn't going to go away so just before my exit I got on the throttle a little and he starts trying to keep up. Around 120 you could tell he was pretty much maxed out. I kept him on my rear quarter panel so that right before my exit I just slowed and took the exit. He hit the breaks and tried to get over but he didn't have time.

Don't drag on a public street, I'd invite him to the track.

Driving involves three basic abilities: Accelerating, braking and turning. More power will help only acceleration. Lower weight helps all three.

Sounds like a kid who just got his license, then decided to take daddies GT out for a drive. If your going to drive fast on public roads. Make sure it's safe, don't drag race, and have a radar detector!!

TheRustler, do not be troubled by a stock Mustang GT. I was about to settle on the special 2008 Mustang Bullitt (hence my handle) before learning about the 135i (and the new M3). The Bullitt is a little more powerful than a stock Mustang GT, boasting 315hp @ 6000rpm and 325lb-ft of torque @ 4250rpm, along with several additional enhancements by Ford Racing in areas such as suspension and stability. The Bullitt is 0.1-0.2sec faster than a stock Mustang GT, with a 0-60mph run in 5 seconds flat. Since the 135i is 0.2-0.3sec faster than the Bullitt already, you should have an automatic victory in a drag race against your friend, unless you are a terrible shifter.

On the track, you would make mincemeat of him.

On a side note, although I wanted the Bullitt, I would never consider a Mustang GT. The Bullitt drives like no other modern mustang. I have to say I even prefer it over the current Shelby GT500. I wouldn't mind having the KR version as a weekend car though.

There's also rumor about that BMW has underrated the max HP and torque of 135i, though I don't know how creditable that is.

GT is a great American icon. I love the low speed rumbling at red lights, but I would not go over 120mph on a GT. Isn't that car is geared for more for low-end grunt as well? I never driven a GT before but I did have a Mustang rental in the past year. I lost to an V6 Accord! The Accord kept pulling over 100mph but the Mustang just barely accelerates and don't feel quite as stable as in a German or Japanese car. - Btw, I wasn't street racing the other guy. Just wanted to see if I could keep up in an American V6, but I was left in the dust.

I bet the GT would be great to lay down a trail of rubber from every light until 90mph. You can do that in the 135i as well but it's a little more sophisticated.

If you're looking to really kick his a$$ you can get a Dinan ECU flash and bump your 135i up to 385hp and 421tq. It's not cheap ($2K), but it only takes a few minutes to do and requires no wrenching. Plus it's one of the best performance to cost ratio mods out there.

+1
The Mustang Bullitt is essentially a modified, well optimized Mustang GT, and it is very fun driving at slow speeds due to the engine's deep rumble, the chassis' subtle vibrations, and the exhaust's powerful sound. However, I think it takes a certain individual to appreciate these feedbacks.

You can't say that you've truly driven a Mustang until you've driven one with a V8!

Mustangs surely aren't anywhere near as stable or smooth like BMW's, but it's the raw unbalanced power and unrefined roughness that contribute to the car's fun factor.

The intakes manufacturer might claim 20hp increase, but in reality, it's probably 1 or 2hp.

Give it a shot! Would be a lot of fun, I am sure.

I would think that the E82 would end up winning though.

Challenge him to a 3 part contest, ala TopGear.

Drag race

Autocross

Track

Even if he takes the drag race, you totally embarras him in the other two comparos.

Make sure you use raw times in the autocross though and not indexed.
