BMW Performance exhaust

I had the BMW performance exhaust installed on my 135. As you all know the kit comes with a new "Y" pipe with the forward resonator removed. I'm finding this a little loud for my taste and I am leaving the performance installed but will be reinstalling the center resonator. I'll let you know how this works should anyone be interested. Could save someone a little work and make this install very simple.

Interesting Idea. I was considering going the other way and leaving the stock exhaust and getting rid of the resonator. I'll be interested to hear how it goes for you!

In what manner did you consider it to be too loud? I'm considering this exhaust, but am a little hesitant based on the experience with my STi.

Loud, as in M3 loud...or Mustang Saleen loud...or something else?

sorry to hijack the thread - does installing the bmw performance exhaust show any hp/tq gain?... will this void your warranty?

The issue with my STi was cabin noise, too much to comfortably carry on a conversation at highway speeds. Going from a 2.5" to a 3" system, it required installing urethane hangers and I always believed that a large part of the problem was the loss of isolation with the hard hangers, which isn't an issue here. So I'd really just like to see a better description of what Randall41 considers too loud.

Same issue with my MkV R32 + Milltek Catbacksystem (2.5") under 2000 rpm. so bommy! Never again...

For most the sound probably isn't to loud. Not boomy or bothersome inside car' The reasons I wanted the exhaust is that 1. it's covered by warranty and is a BMW part. 2. desired a little more tone to let me know there is a nice engine in there. The sound is a rather loud moderate high pitch straight (no pulses) sound at start up. This is my major complaint. Cruising along you would not know it's there but on the throttle it gets really attention grabbing loud.
I plan on reinstalling the center resonator Monday or Tuesday, 6/23 or 24, I'll keep you posted.
just to add I have a custom center section with balance tube and a Borla muffler on my E30M3, now that is F-15 in afterburner loud but a good loud. Would NEVER be confused with a Hon, Toy, Mit or other Rice types.

Yup, same with my MkV GTI and AWE TBE and with my Tacoma TRD with the Banks system.
I need to drive a car with the performance before buying this time....

I drove a 135 with the BMW performance exhaust and it had a sweet sound. It was louder then stock but not stupid loud. Maybe 15% louder. It just has a deeper, meaner sounding idel and a slightly louder bark up top. It was quiet when cruising at part throttle. I did drive a stock 135 back to back with teh performance exhaust and It didn't FEEL any faster. But I must say again...the sound was SWEET!!!

Here is what I have noticed. This is one of the quietest aftermarket exhausts I have had. That being said, when you are cruising along, you won't hardly even notice that you have one installed. Once you give it some gas though, you know it is there. More of an exotic sound and not too deep.

When the exhaust is cold though it will sound a bit metallic.

I had the performance exhaust and short shift installed Monday. The exhaust sound is just right for me. There is no droning at freeway speeds on long
gradual inclines but on secondary roads with steeper hills you do notice a louder note when ascending the hill. I did have one problem with the exhaust.
Yesterday a metallic rattle sound started coming from under the car when
I went over bumps. The dealer is 90 miles away so I took it to a friend who
has a lift at his tire shop. The rubber damper on the exhaust hanger must have stretched and was allowing the exhaust to hit the cross brace near the center of the car. We put a hose clamp around the rubber damper of the exhaust hanger and tighten it up slightly to give the exhaust pipe a little more clearance.
Is there a special piece that goes on the exhaust hanger or do you just use
the existing one?

No rattle or issues for me either. And I love the sound. However, with the availability and higher performance potential of the Riss Racing exhaust, I am not sure which way I would go if I had to make the decision now.

Great piece of work. What did you expect from BMW?
The sound however is a bit loud (to me) especially warm up.
