If the 135i wasn't available? Probably would have bought an Audi S3.

Car prices are hideous Down Under, for $70k-$80k there's nothing else I'd spend my money on. Certainly not the current model WRX STI or the Evo X, I don't care how good the performance is meant to be when I spend that sort of money I want a cabin that reflects that, not one that looks like it was lifted from the $25k base model.

I doubt the 128 is a good/competitive fit in the BMW Club Racing rules, so if no 135i, we'd have to race some other kind of BMW.

Were the 135 not produced I'd still be in a 1971 Buick Skylark. Oh, wait, I am!

The N54 intoxicates, that combined with a small(ish)BMW's handling, nothing else was required in the equation, I reserved first week of August 08. A no-brainer, IMO, haven't looked back. The 135 is, without any equivocation, the most enjoyable car I have ever owned or driven. Oh yeah, BTW, I have driven an E46 M3 and a Lotus Esprit, overall, the 135 is 'funner' than both. I am absolutely smitten with this car.:roundel: Can you tell?

Haven't purchased the 135i yet. But, if it wasn't around I would of purchased a Volvo C30, S2K, or Sti. (Yes I said Volvo)

More than likely a C6 Corvette for me. Behind that was a STI or Evo or C5 ZO6. I still would like to get a C6 corvette after the 135i has worn out her welcome. Just something about them.

I'm in Australia. I'd probably have bought an M3 but I would have had to wait 3-4 months to get one. I was very lucky to find a 135 which was optioned how I wanted it and I was able to take delivery within days. I think the it was pre-sold but fell through and I was in the right place at the right time. They are sold out until the end of the year here. I was happy to take 90% of the performance of an M3 at 50% of the price. That's how I think of it anyway.

I was also considering a Lexus IS-F but they aren't on sale here just yet.

I'm very happy with the 135 and have no regrets. I would not have bought a 128 (125 here = same car) though I might buy one for my wife one day - sorry fellas

I bought the car for the engine, so I would not have bought the 125i (same as 128i in Australia). I would have probably gone for the Subaru STI if there was no 135i.

When I moved from the 2002 and 2002tii to E30 and then E36, I also moved to the convenience of four doors, since there was no discernible disadvantage in performance. Enraptured by the N54, I was already thinking of a four-door 335i (quicker through R&T's slalom than the coupe) when the 135 came along. Given no 135, and even given its size, I'm pretty sure I'd be driving a 335i today. Let's be honest, guys and gals: in sport trim, the 335i is one hell of sport sedan, one that gives precious little to the 135.

Wow, that's a long wait for a M3. The dealership I bought at is actually having an M sale right now. They had 10 coupes, 8 verts and 10 sedans when it started.

And, my boss has the IS-F, it is an incredible vehicle.

Not only would I but I did! I decided to buy the 128 because of the normaly asperated engine. Hey, no one loves speed and HP more than me! I also own a Porsche 911SC that is race/ street prepaired. The 128 has pleanty of get up and go for me.
Pepole forget that there is a trade off when going from Normaly asperated to turbos.
The trade off is durability! I am not a rich man and could only imagine what the cost of replacing these turbos and also the extra boost does eventually blow out head gaskets and burns valves. Turbos create extreem heat. An engine composed of mostly aluminium can suffer decreased life. So I forfit 70 HP for a longer lived car.
So, to answer your question Yes, I would still buy the 128i. BUT I am glad that the 135 exist! I say bravo to BMW for giving us this great hot rod

Yes, I would've bought one unhesitatingly.

And if they offered the 123d coupe along side the 135i, it would have been a very tough decision between the two for me.

There is nothing wrong with the 128. Plenty of power. Really.

No chance... I was getting ready to build a 1000whp sc300 until I saw the 135i. Mods are pretty easy for this car so hopefully I can push 500-600whp in the next year or two.

The main reason for getting the 135i was because it was a well balanced RWD TT I6, and wasn't as big as the 3 series...

would have gotten the 335xi. I actually had originally put a down payment for one when I was in Iraq. but while over there the 1 series was coming out. So I switched that payment over to the 135i

The short list was:

135i
370Z
Camaro SS
G37
CPO 335i
CPO e46 M3

Drove everything but the e46 M3 and settled on the 135i. BMW just had the best all-around car for me as a daily driver, and my dealer here in Detroit provides such excellent service that that really sealed the deal for me. I even forgave the fact that my 330ci's step trans failed on me in February.

I'll probably pick up a Camaro SS or a 370Z when I get to the point that I can have a 3-car family. Hate the interior on the Camaro but that engine is a -brute-. The Z was a real hoot to drive.
