The only thing that REALLY gets me is when some joker takes a 328 or equivalent, puts on some bigger wheels and an ugly ass aftermarket body kit and then slaps an M3 badge on the rear.
But the 850CSi is actually recognized as an official M car in the vein of M3, M5, etc. because its VIN number is a M VIN number. The M3, M5, etc. have a different manufacturer prefix in the VIN number and that unlabeled M carried with it the VIN number of M division, as if it were an M8. The Euro e12 M535i was sold along side the M5, had the official from the factory M badge (albeit with the numbers 535 and letter i following it) but did NOT have an M division VIN number. So you have an example of what a car coming from the factory with an ///M badge, but not recognized as an M car in the vein of M3, M5, etc and an example of one the did not have ///M badging (850CSi) but is recognized as an M car via the VIN number. That is why the whole argument about ///M badge (that is ///M without numeric suffix) is crazy because various versions throughout BMW history have rolled off BMW production lines with ///M badging (without numeric suffix).

I like the ///M badge. Where can I get one?

Yes, I like M1 and I want a M1 but BMW won't give me one and therefore I've to rebadge the best 1 series car to be my M1. It is not my fault. It is BMW's fault for not offering a M1 in US market.

The point being that the factory saw fit to not put an M logo on the 850csi and decided the opposite about the M535i. I don't think it's any different than putting a 135 badge on a 128, since the general perception of the //M badge is that it denotes a unique model.

People can do what they want to their cars, and if it makes them happy then more power to them. But I think that a more honest approach would have been an //M badge in front of the 135, or maybe on the other side of the trunk lid, as opposed to just sticking the //M there by itself. But like I said, I really don't give a crap, not when i regularly see idiots running around with X3's with //M badges on them. Yes, I said regularly.

BMW will probably NEVER offer an M1 again so that they don't tarnish the memory of that car. Sticking //M stickers on your car is one thing, putting an M1 label on it would be freakin' sacrelige.

I think the M badge is misplaced. Fishing lines are cheap so it wont be hard. Its a 135 period

hahahah its funny hw people are getting all twisted over the badge issue.. u hit the nail on the head with the whole E92 M3.. its tooo luxurious and lost its true spirit.

now if u really wanna have some fun with these guys how about u paint the whole car the M colors and make the plate FUKBMWNA. (F*CK BMW NORTH AMERICA) and for that im goona put a badge on my car too. i thnk my car deserves an ///M badge just like any ///M out there.. now it might not be as good as the NEW ///m3 but its def better then the e46 ///M3 and e36///m3
