Does an aftermarket stereo void warranty ?

I have a 135i on order and it arrives in 3 weeks. Does anyone know if putting in different speakers and an amp would void any of the warranty on the other electronics in the car?

that's call modding. if you have electrical problem(for anything) and they find the amp, they probally will void your warrenty. remember when you tamper with the car they will use any excuse to slam you. bmw's have a lot of onboard computer related items and you're giving them a reason.

from what I hear. you can't change the stock headunit with a after market one unless you relocate the stock one. Apparently it has a onboard computer built into the stock head unit.

Ya I got the idrive. Just want to add speakers and an amp. I wouldn't want to change the head unit.

how do you know for sure that you want to upgrade the stereo system when you don't have the car yet?? the stock sound system is very clear and loud, the only thing i would upgrade is the bass...

For the most part, mods never 'void the warranty'. They do allow the manufacturer to deny a warranty claim, but only if the manufacturer can prove that a mod caused the problem.

this is true, bmw has made a very nice sound system considering what they used to put in earlier models but it still won't satisfy most audiophiles...

i still prefer the stock integrated clean look but i'm interested to see what options are available to increase the sound. i'd imagine it would be hard to change the head unit as it seems integrated into the cars setup, especially if you have idrive.

Agreed, I still don't know yet but in the past stock systems have never been enough for me and I am sure this will be the case again.
