Hopefully they are wrong! I thought 1 Series sales were up for the year.

Not surprising.

By August '08 the 1-series had only been in the US for ~4 months and while the market was down, it had not yet crashed.
By August '09 the 1-series had been out for over a year, the market had crashed and people stopped spending money on just about everything.

Would have guessed a lot lower number based on the fact you still don't see a lot of them.

Well, total BMW 1er sales account for all of 0.00014373% of cars registered in the US, significantly less than even that infinitesimal fraction when you include trucks and SUVs in the calculation. Statistically, if you see 10,000 vehicles in a day, you will only see 1.4 1ers, plus or minus.

Honestly, the 1-series isn't priced well. Most consumers rather spend a couple more grand for a larger and more luxurious(?) car.

I think you meant 0.014373%, 0.00014373% would mean they've sold less than 400 1ers

+1. Not everyone is looking for "Ultimate Driving Machine". Many people are more interested in bang for a buck. From that view 1Series isnt priced well. Either way I'm enjoying the uniquiness of my car

If that's the case, why did the 3-series lose double the sales percentage of the 1-series?

Understand the 1 series will be added to the BMW employee purchase/lease plan so more should wind up on the road.

Leases are included in sales figures.

Not suprising sales are down, last year the car was brand new and hot and there was pent up demand for it. This year not so much. You almost always see this trend with sports cars and coupes.

been on since last year. But that doesn't significantly affect the actual number of allocations. In my center, I'm the only person who has one. As a result our allocations increased by 1, to replace mine.

I have a friend who works at the plant in Spartanburg who indicated the 1 had been added to their employee plan. Apparently, they normally keep the cars until they have around 6,000 miles then exchange them for another vehicle if they want to continue in the program. The friend currently has a 3 series and is thinking about a 1 next time around.

I would be surprised if sales weren't down from '08. Have you been keeping up with the car market?
