got pulled over in westwood, NJ today :/
So today as i left my barber shop, I pulled out of the driveway onto the street. As I make the turn i see a cop on the other side of the road watching cars. 2-3 minutes later he pulls up behind a minivan, over takes him and pulls me over. Officer says pulls me over for 3 reasons. Tint, No front plate, and my plates didn't match up :/.
So the reason my plates didn't match up in the system is because I just ordered a custom plate 3 weeks ago, and DMV takes 8-10 weeks to produce the plate yet the change has already been made.... Officer takes down the custom plates name goes and checks, comes back says I was right and gives me a 55 dollar no front plate ticket (EVEN THO i explained that dealer hadn't given me a bracket yet :P). tells me i shouldn't drive the car since im using false plates at the moment.....even tho its not my fault. this was in WESTWOOD NJ KEEP OUT IF u have tint lol

what can I say, cops are assholes. They need to go get the bad guys and leave those of us who pay taxes and are trying to do doing things wright alone.

$55 for no front plate - count yourself lucky!
Over here I think the fine is 4 penalty units - so $440 (same as driving an unregistered vehicle - yeah dont ask!). I think that's around $410USD. |

A lot of cops are jerks. I had one pull me over, he came up from behind, literally stopped and stroked my CF spoiler before giving me a ticket. I was like wtf?

Westwood, NJ = Bergen Cty...which I believe to be the highest paid cops in the state.
Unless the area is near GS Plaza, these cops have absolutely NOTHING better to do and being close to the end of the month, just trying to make their quota. I know, I lived there almost 2 years and unless there are alot of other cars/traffic on the road, I try not to venture out alone at night in the 1 as these guys see younger people in flashy looking cars as revenue makers.

Chesterfan, let me get this right:
* you've tinted your windows beyond what's legal in your state * you have no front license plate, which is required in your state * your license plate doesn't match the one on DMV's records (and you have a good, valid explanation for that) And you get a ticket for the license plate. Seems to me you are complaining about an officer doing his/her job! Sorry mate, no problems whatsoever from my point of view. You Garden Staters got your tax dollars worth on this one. If I am caught speeding on the highway, I pay the ticket, I don't whine about it. "I broke the law, and the law won!" |

Plasar the Devil's Advocate.
There's some truth to it... if I broke the law, then yes, I should be paying the consequences. However, if I was a cop and I could easily overlook it, then yes, I would've done that too. Last edited by Cris; 11-26-2009 at 11:08 AM.. |

Plasar, trust me I am very grateful that the cop was easy on me with the ticket. I'm just warning other members on the forum to keep out of this area at all costs.

Westwood - come for the Iron Horse, stay for the expensive tickets.
I've been here over 3 years without problems. Of course, it might be that I have my front plates and no front tint on either of my cars. Thanks for the haircut sales tax - downtown needed repaving. |

The reason why tinting in the front is restricted is because of drug dealers/ criminals driving around selling drugs or doing whatever, the cops needs to see their face in order to identifyt them in the court of law. Another reason is because they need to somehow see if your wearing you seat belt or not so they can ticket some more. As for the front plate goes. When you speed and they have those speed traps with cameras they need your license plate to make you pay. Also to identity if the car is stolen when you are driving behind them. They need to be able to identity your car. The dealers should come with the bracket for the front plate, but it is an option that you dont get them to drill the front of your car. If they dont provide that to you, you can actually bring that ticket to the dealer and make them pay for it. |

I'm in NJ and agree they never cut us a break. I also highly recommend the front plate bracket from www.gominigo.com Looks great and goes into the tow hook hold so no drilling into the bumper. I also got blue water instead of red to try and not stand out.
So far, so good. |

I don't understand why everyone is so against the front plate.
We drive 1 series, not exotic collectibles. |

Maybe we just don't like drilling permanent holes into our bumpers?
It also kills the front aesthetics of the car.... It's just doesn't flow with the front when you have to put one.... unfortunately due to laws we are forced to put one.

the holes in the bumper are a non issue once the license plate is screwed in all joking aside, i think the plate out of the tow hook looks god awful. But when located in the normal position looks fine. I would say euro plates look the best. But I stand by my original statement of these being daily drivers, and should be treated as one.: |
