Stolen 125i!

Last night, was cruising to McDonalds at North Ryde with a few mates around 11pm in Christine.

Noticed a Ford Falcon (in the unmarked police blue ) go past me doing 90km/h as i was doing 80km/h in a 70 zone. I passed it as they slowed down and noticed the cute lady passenger looking at the car pretty intently.

Sure enough, the blue's and two's went off when they moved in behind me and i thought they were going to get me for speeding.

3 plain-clothes people got out of the car. I though "Hmmm could be one of those car-jacking things". I would the window down a tiny crack and asked for ID. All 3 cops presented their ID and badges and introduced themselves with names and base police station. Legit. He said "Good to see people asking for our IDs, especially as we're unmarked and in plain clothes." He didn't think it was cheeky of me at all, and i certainly wasn't trying to be cheeky!

Wound the window right down. The guy said "Do you live in xxx?" I said yes. He asked for my licence. As i was getting it out:

Him: "We're looking for a stolen BMW".
Me: "What model/colour?".
Him: "Same model as this, different colour. You look young"
Me: "Do i take that as a compliment?"
Him: "Driving this car, yes!"

While this was going on, the 2 other coppers had torches on my friends hands (seems like US cops!), to make sure they weren't doing anything untoward.

Cop checked my licence, apologised for the inconvenience and wished me a safe night.

So, there's a stolen 125i floating around!

But - why pull me over if it's a clearly different colour?
1. They ran the rego check before they pulled me over (hence they knew where the car was from)
2. Seeing as though the rego was clean (not stolen), and the colour wasn't right, why the hell does he need to pull me over?
3. In response to #2, he didn't mention anything about my speed, either

Maybe they were just fishing. It was late-ish and they figured "why not check anyway. Never know what you could find". At least they were doing their job. If you haven't anything to hide, there's nothing to worry about, right?

Exactly Certainly nothing to hide here

Just interesting - they didn't check the car; just watched my passengers while I got a couple of questions and checked the licence.

Don't know - i just got pulled over as a suspected thief

BMW Assist remote location doesn't work in Australia. They can't even unlock the car for you if you lose/lock you keys in there!

My mates and I were talking about it - seeing as though it's practically impossible to steal a 1 series, they must have stolen the key off the owner. Carjacking is highly unlikely because of the auto-lock feature too.

Maybe they wanted to suss out your car up close and they rate your car. I've had a cop pull me over for "speeding" only to not give me a ticket and want to chat with me about my car. Lucky I wasn't running late anywhere or I would have been pissed. By the way I wasn't speeding.

that's a good outcome in my book.
No fine, no major hassle, all good.
I judged from the topic you'd had the car stolen.

Maybe the story is true and there's one pretty depressed individual somewhere....

Yeah - when the blue's and two's went on i thought "there goes my perfect driving record!! SH*T!!".. But alas, no, they were very nice.

They possibly did fall in love with Christine. Perhaps it was the golf tee mod they loved

Tim, soon mate, soon!

Very true..they are either fishing or just bored..
Had the same experience as Alex some years ago, was pulled over in my BSM 330Ci on suspicion of the car being stolen only to be told after being questioned and had my ID verified that the car they where looking for was Blue not Black..Wankers..just time wasters..

Yeh dude, from the topic I initially thought that CHRISTINE got stolen.

About the carjacking thing, don't be so sure. Recently in Kellyville (close to my neighbourhood) a car was held up at GUNPOINT and told the guy to get out of his car. Having the autolock feature doesn't really help there.

I personally would've just put my head down and gunned it. But each to his own.

Read the header on the post abd feared the worst for Christine! Glad that's not the case.

It's good to see the cops sort of doing there jobs! Was pulled over once in a 318i in Perth, driving in Subiaco with a friend. Asked me if it was my car, checked the details and left. Didn't feel great when your 19!

Around here, there are so few cars on the road late at night that when I go for a late night drive and a cops passes me coming the other way, he will almost ALWAYS do a U-turn, put on the blue flashies and pull me over.

They usually want to do a breath test, but when they see me the say: "oh it's you" and wave me off. You see in a small town everybody knows everyone, and they know me as the tee-totalling publican.

Hahaha this is exactly what I said to my mates. I've been attempted carjacked in 2004 (only to have an unmarked cop car with two detectives behind me!). It's not a nice situation, that's for sure. However I put my windows up and locked the car as soon as i knew what was happening.

I would have done exactly the same - head down, foot flat.

So its vitually impossible for some one to steal our cars without the key fob?
A friends Honda Accord V6 (new one) was entered into by some unknowns.
He went back to his car still locked but his laptop, cd's, breifcase was all missing. No damaged to his car.
He thinks its someone with a professional learning remote hiding around the corner that may have done this.

Possible for someone to do this and update a temp key fob and drive away in our cars?

Mate, in '07 I had the same experience driving my old car which I shared with my mum. Stopping at sensor triggered traffic light on a small extremely deserted road. Their car was in front of mine, no where for me to go.

Long story short, lost my driver side window, a bunch of stuff happened (rather not go into details on a public forum) and when I got home my dad drove me to hospital with some superficial cuts all over my right arm and some EXTREMELY swollen knuckles. With the benefit of hindsight, I should've just reversed.

And yes Alex it's time for a nice relaxing drive again.
