Finally Replacing the factory fun flat tires!!!

The glorious day is finally drawing near when I will need to replace the factory run flat tires!! WOOHOO!!!!

However, I am torn on what tires to replace them with...Anybody have any good suggestions or opinions on what I should get or not get? I do quite a bit of driving both city and highway so I want something that will last but at the same time I do drive fairly agressive and spirited so I want something with stellar grip!

Thanks!

I was also looking at some of the new continental sport tires but have been hearing and reading a lot of good things about the Yokohama S-Drive??

I will look at the hankook tires too, hadn't thought about those...

my stock tires are at about 23,500mi and showing their life for sure :-p

Bridgestone RE-11's although they are a little on the expensive side, are an amazing tire for these cars. I believe it rates them at a moderate tread wear, but we had them on our car for almost 15,000 miles.

I had Bridgestone RE-07r's on my WRX before, loved them. Great tire.

Before that it was all BF Goodriches G-Force KDW and G-Force Sports. The G-Force KDW 2's are great tires that come in sizes for our cars (135i), and are great tires if you live in a fairly dry climate. They're priced fairly too at $135 fronts and 172 for rears. Being that you're in OC I think they are worth looking into. ~$600 for a set is a great price.

Side note: I checked Tirerack.com for this car for that pricing info and was surprised that they don't have many options for our car. Anyone know why? Is it because the size differs front/rear and I'm asking it to find matching tires front/rear?

I've read on these forums between 10k-15k miles for the rears, and around 2x that for the fronts.

I would NEVER use run flats again...EVER!!! They have HORRIBLE GRIP!! Not to mention they are way way overpriced. Not having a jack or spare tire isnt really of concern if you have roadside assistance and/or towing. haha!

Bridgestone seems to be getting some good reviews. Pilot sports are good too but way expensive! I have had a fairly hard time finding an abundance of options that fit the 135i with 18" wheels but discounttire.com has quite a few...

Hankook V12 evo K110 seem to be very popular. I'll probably be getting these when my OEM RFTs go.

how much is gas mileage affected by the 225 255 tires, slightly wider than stock

also does it throw off the speedometer/odometer at all being different tire sizes

What's the line of reasoning? Honestly, after thinking about it, I'll probably spring for something better, but it's hard to beat that bang-for-the-buck.

I think he was questioning the methodology, not the conclusion.

KOOKS

Try the kooks..You won't be disappointed...if you need more info ..read the comparison tests from Tire Rack...The objective is GET OUT OF THOSE RUN FLATS...I think most tire companies have a 30 day trial period !...Good Luck

I finally decided these are the tires that I wanted to get...However, I have called MULTIPLE tire shops around southern California as well as checking online and the stock sizes for these tires are on NATIONAL BACKORDER!!! WT&?!!! Now I have to try to squeeze some more life out of the RFT on the car or figure out what tire plan "B" would end up being

I'd give Yokos a try. I will once I wear out the Hankooks.

Also swapping RFT's on 2008 135i with 19k miles.

I'm also just about to change out my OEM RFT's on my 2008 135i. Currently, I have 19,000 miles on the car.

I had some questions before getting into it. I measured the tread depth on each tire with a pair of calipers, and found the following tread depth for each tire:

Front Right: 6/32" (ranged from 0.175" - 0.19")
Front Left: 6/32" (ranged from 0.18" - 0.21")
Rear Right: 3/32" (ranged from 0.08" - 0.09")
Rear Left: 5/32" (ranged from 0.14" - 0.16")

As you can see, the rears are about due for a change. Also, there's a fair amount of difference in tread depth between adjacent tires, especially the rears. Any comments as to why the tread would wear differently on one side than the other? PSI discrepancy between tires, or something?

I want to at least swap out the rears at this time. This is my first time ever really going through this process on a car of swapping half of the tire set. Is it ok to mix and match like this running the OEM RFT's up front, and new tires in the back of a potentially different brand?

My ps2s are the best all around DD performance tire I couldve bought. I've gone through one set and the rears lasted for about 25k miles with a full year of autox to boot.

I have Hankook V12 on my 128i (w/ performance suspension upgrade). I measured them yesterday and they have 9/32 front, and 8/32 rear tread left (10/32 is new) after 5k mi. I love the performance, single biggest performance upgrade I've done so far.
