squeeky brakes

I have 50,000kms on the clock and my brakes will not stop squeeking! Its really starting to annoy me. It happened at about 45,000kms so I took it back to my local dealer and they fixed the issue for me but didn't replace anything but now the noise is back again. The pads are still ok because it they still stop me and it feels safe but there must be dirt in there or something. Can anyone offer any advice other then take it back to the dealer?

Take the car up to 250km/hr. Brake really hard until you come to a stop. You should find your squeaking goes away for a while. Repeat when it comes back.

Ok sounds good but I might try 200km/hr first so I don't have a heart attack

Mine do it too and I've only got half the k's you've got.

Last time I had the car serviced I got them to fix it. Apparently there are backing plates behind the pads that require a film of grease applied to them. Anyway, it worked for a while but now it's back again.

Considering they charged me for labour I'm not too keen to get them to do it again. It's a bit embarassing when the security guard at the entrance to work cringes when they hear me coming up to the boom gate every morning. Not a good impression for an $80k car

I cant believe they charged you for labour, is your car no longer under warranty? I bought a used 135 but I still got the BMW premium selection so I get 12 months. Even so spending 80k on a car and have the breaks make noise within the first 30,000kms is pretty pathetic.
I would have let them have it if i was you.

Mine started doing it right about the same time! Very annoying... I find myself braking lightly very early so it doesn't do it, or really hard.

I've read about this problem quite a lot with the Americans as well. Not sure what the source of the problem is but it exists.

I had squeaky brakes on another car and I remember the service people sprayed something on the rotors. It worked for a while but ultimately the noise came back. Sorry - it was so long ago I cannot recall the name.

Mine squeak - but the front pads are due for replacement in about 3,000 kms according to the service indicator.

I thought that the squeak was the wear indicator...

now... anyone care to guess the price to replace the front pads??

I always had the problem on the 318, but never had it in the 120d. So, it will be interesting to see. No squeaky brakes so far, and I was commenting on it a while ago that I didn't have to put up with squeaky brakes anymore.

That would be "Brake Clean". Over here in DE its called: "Brake Kleen" made by CRC. It is only a temp fix. Best thing is just to use your brakes harder to scrape off to the old glazing on the discs. Either that or replace your rotors for the grooves in it.

I don't know about our cars but a friend of mine was quoted $800 for the pads on his 320i.

The cost of the front 135i pads are $294 for the set! Rotors are $181 each for the regular rotors. And for the BMW Perf drilled rotors are $189 each.

So thats $656 or $672 depends on which rotors you go with. Throw in 1.5 hours labor rate and $800 sounds right.

Mine have squeaked for mor than a year. Dealer said need new pads. Said 10k on the indicator at the time. Getting new pads and performance discs. I've done a few track days which always stopped the squeak. Mine has done 28k now.

I've pulled the rear pads out twice and reapplied CRC's disk brake quiet product. Both times it only worked for 2-3 days. I've also lightly sanded the discs and pads, and neither option worked. Think I'll just go the non-OEM pad route when I next get worked up enough about the squeal to do something about it.

Finally got my new brakes and performance rotors installed the other day. It feels so good not having to rely on engine braking as the only way to slow down lol
